Age‐Specific Survival Estimation of a Eurasian Crane Population Highlights a Long‐Term Decline in Juvenile Survival

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
The Eurasian crane (Grus grus), a symbol of conservation success in Europe, has made an impressive recovery. However, our results show that over the study period, juvenile survival declined by almost 30% overall, while sub‐adults experienced a smaller decrease, and adults showed no change.

Integrating Multiple‐Covariate Distance Sampling and Habitat Modeling to Inform Conservation of the Asian Houbara in Central Iran

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We combined multiple‐covariate distance sampling (MCDS) with habitat modeling to estimate the abundance and habitat associations of the vulnerable Asian houbara (Chlamydotis macqueenii) in central Iran. Line‐transect surveys in spring 2022 yielded an estimated density of 0.53 individuals/km2 (~5293 birds), with nearly identical results from ...

Mark‐release‐recapture of ticks: A case study of estimating the abundance of Ixodes persulcatus (Acari, Ixodidae)

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 2022
In this study, we tested the applicability of three common methods of absolute abundance estimation—Peterson, Bailey and Jolly‐Seber—to Ixodes persulcatus ticks based on mark‐release‐recapture data.

Liquid fluorophore taggants for mark‐release‐recapture research: a survey of potential arthropod targets

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2022
We evaluated a method for marking arthropods that could serve as a valuable tool for mark‐release‐recapture dispersal research. The taggants tested consisted of three liquid fluorophores labeled cartax green, magenta, and orange. The manufacturer markets
