Open-Population Mark-Recapture Models

2014
Many of the developments in mark-recapture methodology have been designed for open animal populations, with new animals entering through births and immigration and animals leaving through deaths and emigration. Studies usually involve sampling the population several times, with animals suitably marked when they are first captured so that they can ...

Sample Size in Petersen Mark–Recapture Experiments

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1964
Abstract The efficient planning of a Petersen-type mark and recapture experiment requires some knowledge of the order of magnitude of the population size N. Sample sizes M and C of the mark and recapture samples, respectively, may then be ascertained on the basis of a guessed value of N to achieve any desired degree of accuracy with any specified ...

Mark–recapture experiments with freshwater organisms

Journal of Biological Education, 1991
The population of Gyrinus, the whirligig beetle, is assessed using the Lincoln mark—recapture index. This technique has the advantage of helping the student to understand simple proportion as well as other concepts.

Incorporating individual heterogeneity into mark-recapture models

2023
Mark-recapture analysis is a fundamental tool for understanding populations, since it allows the estimation of demographic parameters, such as survival, movement and reproduction, which can be used to infer population status and predict dynamics. As individuals in wild populations do not all behave in the same way, a challenge is presented in the ...

On the accuracy of some mark-recapture estimators

Oecologia, 1973
The behaviour of the mark-recapture estimators of Petersen, Bailey (triple catch) and Jolly and Seber are examined theoretically and empirically by means of simulation techniques. The correlation between the parameter [Formula: see text] and its associated variance is shown to be significant for all the estimators.

Mark-Recapture Creel Survey and Survival Models

1997
In this dissertation, we consider a model based approach to the estimation of exploitation rate of a fish population by combining mark-recapture procedures with a creel survey. We also consider the analysis of a proportional hazards survival model for randomly censored observations, known as the Koziol-Green model.
