Systemic Extracerebral Atherosclerotic Burden and Dementia Risk After Incident Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Stroke survivors are at increased risk of dementia, but clinically accessible markers of risk heterogeneity remain limited. Previous studies have largely examined atherosclerotic disease in individual vascular beds rather than the overall burden of systemic extracerebral atherosclerosis.

Glucagon‐Like Peptide‐1 Receptor Agonists in Multiple Sclerosis: A Topical Narrative Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonists (RAs) are a relatively new class of drugs that were initially approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and, subsequently, weight reduction in patients with obesity.

Irreversible cognitive transitions mark the hierarchy of symbol grounding

open access: yes
How symbols acquire meaning from sensory experience has remained experimentally intractable because the grounding process cannot be observed in any system that has already completed it. Here we present a minimal encoder–decoder system in which the complete grounding trajectory unfolds under continuous measurement.

Dysregulated Cholesterol Metabolism, Chronic Inflammation, and Disability in Severe Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Dysregulated lipid metabolism, which can affect remyelination and neural repair, has not been extensively investigated in progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS). The goal was to examine whether dysregulated cholesterol metabolism was associated with disability in PMS. Methods The study sample comprised 53 Severe PMS patients (Expanded

Dynamic Changes in Serum Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Levels Predicts Early Neurological Deterioration After Intravenous Thrombolysis in Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Minor strokes may be associated with early neurological deterioration (END) and disabilities. The objective was to investigate the role of serum glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) levels in predicting END. Methods Data originated from a multicenter cohort study conducted prospectively.

Juvenile Huntington Disease With Cerebellar‐Predominant Atrophy Identified by Genome Sequencing

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Juvenile Huntington disease accounts for a small fraction of Huntington disease cases and is driven by the largest trinucleotide repeat expansions. We describe a 6‐year‐old boy with progressive global regression, generalized dystonia, and epilepsy, in whom serial imaging showed striking cerebellar‐predominant atrophy with an initially normal ...
