On the rate of convergence to equilibrium for countable ergodic Markov chains
Using elementary methods, we prove that for a countable Markov chain $P$ of ergodic degree $d > 0$ the rate of convergence towards the stationary distribution is subgeometric of order $n^{-d}$, provided the initial distribution satisfies certain ...

Risk‐aware safe reinforcement learning for control of stochastic linear systems
Abstract This paper presents a risk‐aware safe reinforcement learning (RL) control design for stochastic discrete‐time linear systems. Rather than using a safety certifier to myopically intervene with the RL controller, a risk‐informed safe controller is also learned besides the RL controller, and the RL and safe controllers are combined together ...

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Prioritizing Feasible and Impactful Actions to Enable Secure AI Development and Use in Biology
ABSTRACT As artificial intelligence continues to enhance biological innovation, the potential for misuse must be addressed to fully unlock the potential societal benefits. While significant work has been done to evaluate general‐purpose AI and specialized biological design tools (BDTs) for biothreat creation risks, actionable steps to mitigate the risk

An Irregular Grid Approach for Pricing High-Dimensional American Options [PDF]
We propose and test a new method for pricing American options in a high-dimensional setting. The method is centred around the approximation of the associated complementarity problem on an irregular grid.We approximate the partial differential operator on ...

ABSTRACT The concept of predictive maintenance in advanced manufacturing systems is crucial from the point of view of resource efficiency in the era of high competitiveness forced by energy transformation in the digital economy. Against the backdrop of sustainability and the opportunities a data cooperative offers, the combination of predictive ...

Markov-chain Monte Carlo method enhanced by a quantum alternating operator ansatz
Quantum computation is expected to accelerate certain computational tasks over classical counterparts. Its most primitive advantage is its ability to sample from classically intractable probability distributions.

Markov Operators and $C^{*}$-Algebras
A Markov operator $P$ acting on $C(X)$, where $X$ is compact, gives rise to a natural topological quiver. We use the theory of such quivers to attach a $C^{*}$-algebra to $P$ in a fashion that reflects some of the probabilistic properties of $P$.
