A coupled hidden Markov model for disease interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To investigate interactions between parasite species in a host, a population of field voles was studied longitudinally, with presence or absence of six different parasites measured repeatedly.

Theory and inference for a Markov switching GARCH model [PDF]

open access: yes
We develop a Markov-switching GARCH model (MS-GARCH) wherein the conditional mean and variance switch in time from one GARCH process to another. The switching is governed by a hidden Markov chain. We provide sufficient conditions for geometric ergodicity

Health-state estimation and prognostics in machining processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Failure mechanisms of electromechanical systems usually involve several degraded health-states. Tracking and forecasting the evolution of health-states and impending failures, in the form of remaining-useful-life (RUL), is a critical challenge and ...

An agent-based implementation of hidden Markov models for gas turbine condition monitoring

open access: yes, 2014
This paper considers the use of a multi-agent system (MAS) incorporating hidden Markov models (HMMs) for the condition monitoring of gas turbine (GT) engines.

Applications of hidden Markov models in financial modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University.Various models driven by a hidden Markov chain in discrete or continuous time are developed to capture the stylised features of market variables whose ...

Inverse Design of Amorphous Materials With Targeted Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AMDEN is a diffusion model framework for the inverse design of amorphous materials with targeted properties. By incorporating Hamiltonian Monte Carlo refinement into the denoising process, the framework overcomes the challenge of generating thermally relaxed disordered structures.

Weaving Intelligence: Thermally Drawn Multimaterial Fibers Toward AI‐Enabled Smart Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally drawn multimaterial fibers are rapidly advancing as intelligent structural units for next‐generation smart textiles. Integrating multimaterial architectures with neuromorphic and spiking‐neural‐network principles enables fabrics that can sense, compute, and adapt autonomously.

Identifying Physical Interactions in Contact‐Based Robot Manipulation for Learning from Demonstration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robots can learn manipulation tasks from human demonstrations. This work proposes a versatile method to identify the physical interactions that occur in a demonstration, such as sequences of different contacts and interactions with mechanical constraints.

Allosteric Regulation of Photophysics and Binding in Oxazine‐macrocycle Complexes at Single‐molecule Resolution

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work explores the interactions between the oxazine dye ATTO655 and two macrocyclic hosts using optical (single‑molecule) spectroscopy. Although ATTO655 forms a classical inclusion complex with cucurbit[8]uril (CB8), its interaction with p‑sulfonatocalix[4]arene (sCX4) leads to the formation of dim exclusion complexes.
