Swarm exploration and navigation on mars

2013 International Conference on Localization and GNSS (ICL-GNSS), 2013
We propose autonomous robotic swarm exploration to search for extra-terrestrial life in the Valles Marineris canyon system on Mars. The swarm consists of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Key technologies are robust flight and swarm control algorithms as well as infrastructure-less swarm navigation.

Exobiology and the Exploration of Mars

Applied Optics, 1969
Our limited understanding of the Martian environment has stimulated much speculation on the possible existence of a. Martin biota. This understanding is being steadily improved by ground-based observing techniques. Rapid advances have been made by the Mariner IV flyby and will be made by the Mariner 1969 flybys and the Mariner 1971 orbiters.

The Mars exploration plans of ESA

IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine, 2006
In the framework of its Aurora Exploration Program, the European Space Agency (ESA) has initiated the ExoMars Project. Aside from searching for traces of life at and near the Martian surface, ExoMars aims to characterize the Martian geochemistry and water distribution at various locations, improve the knowledge of the Mars environment and geophysics ...

Mars exploration advances: Missions to Mars - Mars base

30th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 1992
An overview is presented of Mars missions and related planning with attention given to four mission architectures in the light of significant limitations. Planned unpiloted missions are discussed including the Mars Orbital Mapping Mission, the Mars Rover Sample Return, the Mars Aeronomy Orbiter, and the Mars Environmental Survey.

Mathematics and Mars Exploration

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2014
In this study we consider modelization associated with study of solar radiation at the surface of Mars and the Martian atmosphere. In particular, we present elements concerning retrieval of the solar irradiance spectrum on the surface of Mars from data collected by arrays of photodiodes, such as those onboard the “Curiosity” MSL-rover and other ...

Mars exploration planning

31st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1993
Mars exploration planning is discussed which is based on three scientific objectives: to understand Mars' geologic and geophysical evolution; to understand the present state and past evolution of Martian climate, and to determine the state of present biological activity and past life.

Relay communications for Mars exploration

International Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, 2007
AbstractTelecommunication is an essential and challenging aspect of planetary exploration. For Mars landers, the constraints of mass, volume, power and energy typically limit their communications capabilities on the long‐distance link back to Earth. By deploying relay spacecraft in Martian orbit, these landers can achieve much greater data return and ...

The Mars Exploration Program

Space technology and applications international forum (STAIF - 97), 1997
The Mars Exploration Program was initiated in 1994. It currently consists of a Discovery mission (Mars Pathfinder which will land in 1997) and the Mars Surveyor Program. The objectives of the Mars Surveyor Program are to launch 2 robotic missions every 26 months to address the three themes of Life, Climate, and Resources, with the focus of initial ...

Mars exploration rover launch

Proceedings of the 29th International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques. Electronic Art and Animation Catalog., 2002
This 100-percent CG visualization shows the Delta II rocket launch that will propel NASA's Mars Exploration Rover to the Red Planet in 2003. The animation, developed over a one-year period by a Cornell University undergraduate student, is intended to be dramatic, realistic, and scientifically accurate. It was created with a combination of off-the-shelf

Exploration of planet Mars

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
In this paper we used an interdisciplinary approach to make students more interested in science, to increase and apply their knowledge, to better understand complex processes and phenomena and to connect different fields of science (physics, astronomy, astronautics, biology, geography, psychology, pedagogy, programming, etc.).
