The Na/K-ATPase α1/Src Signaling Axis Regulates Mitochondrial Metabolic Function and Redox Signaling in Human iPSC-Derived Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
Na/K-ATPase (NKA)-mediated regulation of Src kinase, which involves defined amino acid sequences of the NKA α1 polypeptide, has emerged as a novel regulatory mechanism of mitochondrial function in metazoans.

Outcomes of Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement among high risk WV sample population

open access: yesMarshall Journal of Medicine, 2018
Introduction:Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a relatively new strategy for replacing the aortic valve. We elected to review our early experience to see if we could identify clinical characteristics at baseline or immediately following ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Risk of Retinopathy Associated with Long‐Term Use of Hydroxychloroquine in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to estimate the prevalence and cumulative incidence of hydroxychloroquine retinopathy (HCQ‐R) and its risk factors among patients receiving long‐term HCQ with rheumatic diseases through a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies that used spectral‐domain optical coherence tomography (SD‐OCT) for screening ...

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.
