A dynamic multi‐scale occupancy model to estimate trends in habitat use in spatially and temporally complex systems

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Species occurrence is often influenced by changes in environmental conditions at multiple spatial and temporal scales working simultaneously in a hierarchical fashion. While previous dynamic multi‐scale occupancy modelling frameworks address dynamics at multiple spatial scales, they assume both large‐scale and small‐scale units are closed ...

Rights, Pains and Illusions: The Experiences of Welsh‐Speakers at Wales’ ‘Flagship’ Prison

open access: yesThe Howard Journal of Crime and Justice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article challenges claims of ‘inherent’ bilingualism in Wales’ largest prison, HMP Berwyn. Drawing on semi‐structured interviews and extensive documentary research, we find that Welsh‐speaking prisoners at this ‘flagship’ prison have experienced widespread neglect of their needs and overt interferences with their use of the Welsh language.

Construction of multi-bubble solutions for the critical gKdV equation

open access: yes, 2017
We prove the existence of solutions of the mass critical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation $\partial_t u + \partial_x(\partial_{xx} u + u^5) = 0$ containing an arbitrary number $K\geq 2$ of blow up bubbles, for any choice of sign and scaling ...

Construction of multi-solitons for the energy-critical wave equation in dimension 5

open access: yes, 2015
We construct 2-solitons of any speed of the focusing energy-critical nonlinear wave equation in dimension 5. The existence result also holds for the case of K-solitons, for any K >2, assuming that the speeds are collinear.

Annual Research Review: Early conduct problems – precursors, outcomes, and etiology

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
During the toddler and preschool period, nearly all children engage in some level of aggression, defiance, stealing, and temper tantrums. While the frequency and intensity of these behaviors tends to decrease across early childhood, a subset of children engage in these conduct problem behaviors at a higher intensity early in life and/or do not desist ...
