Vacancy-tuned paramagnetic/ferromagnetic martensitic transformation in Mn-poor Mn_{1-x}CoGe alloys

open access: yes, 2010
It is shown that a temperature window between the Curie temperatures of martensite and austenite phases around the room temperature can be obtained by a vacancy-tuning strategy in Mn-poor Mn1-xCoGe alloys (0

FE calculations on a three stage metal forming process of Sandvik Nanoflex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Sandvik NanoflexTM combines good corrosion resistance with high strength. This steel has good deformability in\ud austenitic conditions. It belongs to the group of metastable austenites, which means that during deformation a strain-induced\ud ...

Modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa: a neutron diffraction study

open access: yes, 2012
7M orthorhombic modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa is reported by powder neutron diffraction study, which indicates that it is likely to exhibit magnetic field induced strain. The change in the unit cell volume is less than 0.5%

Crystal symmetry and the reversibility of martensitic transformations [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2004
Martensitic transformations are diffusionless, solid-to-solid phase transitions, and have been observed in metals, alloys, ceramics and proteins. They are characterized by a rapid change of crystal structure, accompanied by the development of a rich microstructure.

Influence of intermartensitic transitions on transport properties of Ni2.16Mn0.84Ga alloy

open access: yes, 2004
Magnetic, transport, and x-ray diffraction measurements of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy Ni$_{2.16}$Mn$_{0.84}$Ga revealed that this alloy undergoes an intermartensitic transition upon cooling, whereas no such a transition is observed upon subsequent ...

Simulating the Effects of Substrate Pre-Heating on the Final Structure of Steel Parts Built by Laser Powder Deposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Tool steel parts built by laser powder deposition often present a heterogeneous distribution of properties caused by the complex structural transformations that occur during the deposition process.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

NiTi shape-memory transformations: minimum-energy pathways between austenite, martensites, and kinetically-limited intermediate states [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
NiTi is the most used shape-memory alloy, nonetheless, a lack of understanding remains regarding the associated structures and transitions, including their barriers.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Effect of lattice mismatch-induced strains on coupled diffusive and displacive phase transformations

open access: yes, 2006
Materials which can undergo slow diffusive transformations as well as fast displacive transformations are studied using the phase-field method. The model captures the essential features of the time-temperature-transformation (TTT) diagrams, continuous ...
