Modeling of the magnetic field-induced martensitic variant reorientation and the associated magnetic shape memory effect in MSMAs

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
This work is concerned with the magnetic field-induced rearrangement of martensitic variants in magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs). In addition to the variant reorientation, the rotation of the magnetization and magnetic domain wall motion are considered as the microstructural mechanisms causing the macroscopically observable constitutive response ...

A theoretical model of martensitic transformations in magnetic shape memory alloys: Model formulation and variant reorientation

Acta Materialia, 2008
A model for studying the martensitic variant pattern in ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) and its evolution is developed. In a departure from prior work, the model allows for complete three-dimensional description of the second-order phase transformations in FSMAs under multiaxial loading.

Epitaxial Ni–Mn–Ga films deposited on SrTiO3 and evidence of magnetically induced reorientation of martensitic variants at room temperature

Applied Physics Letters, 2008
Epitaxial Ni–Mn–Ga films were grown on SrTiO3 by sputter deposition. The films deposited at 673K are ferromagnetic and martensitic at room temperature. Pole figure measurements indicate that the twinned orthorhombic martensite microstructure of the film has a lower symmetry compared to bulk.

Numerical Investigations of Thermally Induced Transformation, Reorientation of Martensite Variants and Shape Memory Effect Using Constitutive Model for Accommodation of Transformation Strain

Materials Science Forum, 2011
To confirm the constitutive model developed by the present authors, example calculations are conducted for the transformation behavior of shape memory alloys. The constitutive model describes the transformation behavior of the material by calculating the transformation stress and strain of transformation systems of micro structures in the material.

Atomistic modeling of the orientation-dependent pseudoelasticity in NiTi: Tension, compression, and bending

Computational materials science, 2018
Pseudoelasticity in NiTi shape memory alloy single crystals depends on the loading direction. Here, we present a comprehensive study in which molecular dynamics simulations of austenitic bulk single crystals under strain-controlled tensile and ...
