Original hybrid control for robotic structures using magnetic shape memory alloys actuators.

open access: yes, 2007
International audienceMagnetic Shape Memory Alloys (MSMA) are relatively new active materials but at this time they are not actually very used as actuators despite a high strain and a small response time.

Displacive model of deformation twinning in hexagonal close-packed metals. Case of the (90 deg, a) and (86 deg, a) extension twins in magnesium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A crystallographic displacive model is proposed for the extension twins in magnesium. It is based on a hard-sphere assumption previously used for martensitic transformations.

Fabrication of Compositionally Graded NiTi Shape Memory Alloy Laminated Composites Through Hot Roll Bonding and its Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 10, May 2025.
A novel technique for fabricating monolithic functionally graded NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) laminated hybrid composite has been developed. An excellent metallurgical bonding can be established between two compositionally different NiTi SMAs through spark plasma sintering joining/diffusion bonding followed by hot roll bonding.

A Novel Digitalization Approach for Smart Materials – Ontology‐Based Access to Data and Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2025.
In order to access heterogeneous material data and model‐based knowledge, the established ontology‐based data access (OBDA) is extended to include material models. This novel ontology‐based data and model access (OBDMA) enables the computation of new responses beyond stored data.

Influence of superelastic training and huge strains on field-induced martensitic variants reorientation in particulate Ni–Mn–Ga/silicone composite

open access: yesSmart Materials and Structures
Abstract Ni–Mn–Ga ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) are promising materials for actuator and transducer devices. Their intrinsic brittleness and high fabrication cost in the bulk form are issues to be solved. One of the solutions is a development of composites comprising these materials as a filler component whereby representing ...
