Laser heat treatment of martensitic steel and dual-phase steel with high martensite content

open access: yesMaterials Science and Engineering: A, 2019
Laser heat treatment of galvanised steels with a martensite content superior to 80% were performed on a 1 cm wide area over an extensive temperature range [620 K - 1350 K]. The material softening induced is studied through uniaxial tensile testing and SEM microstructural observation. A treatment temperature close to Ac3 yields a massive increase in the

Transformation super plasticity deformation of reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel

open access: yes, 2019
0000-0001-9016-2318Reduced Activation Ferritic/Martensitic (RAFM) steel is a promising candidate for the blanket structural materials of fusion reactors. One of the key issues in the use of RAFM for the blanket is its low workability.

Effect of Heat Treatment Parameters on Microstructure, Hardness, and Corrosion Resistance of Martensitic Stainless Steel X30Cr13 (AISI 420B)

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The hardness and corrosion resistance of the martensitic stainless steel X30Cr13 depend directly on the applied heat treatment. This article describes and discusses the relationships between alloy composition, thermodynamic phase stabilities, heat treatment parameters, resulting microstructures, and achievable corrosion resistance. To investigate these

Experimental and Comparative Study of the Corrosion Behavior of Lean Duplex Stainless Steel in Seawater

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The localized corrosion behavior of lean duplex stainless steel EN 1.4062 is systematically compared with austenitic and higher‐alloyed duplex grades in natural seawater. A clear resistance ranking is established, highlighting EN 1.4062 as a cost‐effective alternative for limited marine exposure.

On the Mechanism of the Martensite Formation in Steel

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials, 1948
The ‘Umklappen’ which is the process of the formation of one martensite (α') needle, takes place in an extremely short time. This process, therefore, must be adiabatic and needs no diffusion of atoms, that is, no change of composition, consequently, when the austenite (γ) is cooled from point X (Fig. 2 and 3).
