In this study, the susceptibility to copper‐induced hot shortness of the alloy 42CrMo4 is investigated by different hot tensile tests, as well as by a detailed analysis of the formed oxidation products. While an enrichment of metallic copper and a penetration of the grain boundaries are observed, no critical reduction of the tensile test properties can

Functionally Graded Martensitic Stainless Steel
Functionally graded materials (FGM) are defined as an anisotropic material whose physical properties vary continuously throughout the volume, either randomly or strategically, to achieve desired characteristics or functionality. The aim of this project is to perform a modal analysis to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a FGM using ...

Numerical thermo-elasto-plastic analysis of residual stresses on different scales during cooling of hot forming parts [PDF]
In current research, more and more attention is paid to the understanding of residual stress states as well as the application of targeted residual stresses to extend e.g. life time or stiffness of a part.

The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.

Electrochemical hydrogen charging of duplex stainless steel [PDF]
This study evaluates the electrochemical hydrogen charging behavior and interaction between hydrogen and the microstructure of a duplex stainless steel. A saturation level of approximately 650 wppm is reached after 10 d of charging. The data are compared

Influence of Higher Tramp Element Level on the Weldability of Automotive Steels
The use of green recycled steels is constantly expanding in the automotive industry. The increase in tramp elements resulting from the recycling of steel is problematic. Tramp elements can lead to a negative influence on the weldability. To understand the influence, the welding properties of three green steels are characterized. The potential limits of

Effects of Ce addition on inclusion modification in martensitic stainless steel
The control of inclusion features, i.e., chemical composition, distribution, quantity, and size, is in high demand for stainless steels to achieve good surface quality, pitting corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties.

The study investigates the influence of heat treatment and scan rotation on the microstructure of a modified H13 tool steel manufactured using laser powder bed fusion. Key findings include the refinement of prior austenite grains (PAGs) due to recrystallization and carbide pinning, and the significant impact of scan rotation on the size distribution of
