Dynamic behavior and Martensitic transformation of FeNiCoAlTaB high entropy alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Owing to superior mechanical properties such as high fatigue life and high yield strength of many non-equiatomic high entropy alloys (HEA), a novel division of non-equiatomic FeNiCoAlTaB (NCATB) HEAs has been introduced.

Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. Effect of free surface on martensitic transformation in individual retained austenite grains

open access: yes, 2015
The stability of retained austenite depends on the chemical composition, morphology, grain size and hardness of the surrounding matrix. Different to these aspects, the present work explores the effect of free surface on the stability of retained ...

Alloy Qualification for Producing Quench and Tempered Plate Steels with Extra‐Heavy Gage

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops alloy concepts for ultraheavy steel plates (>100 mm) with ≥690 MPa yield strength. Through dilatometry and Jominy testing, the effects of Mo, Ni, and B on hardenability are quantified. A synergy between 0.5% Mo and 0.5%–1.0% Ni ensures core strength at low cooling rates, while boron microalloying suppresses ferrite and promotes ...

MARTENSITIC TRANSFORMATION IN AN EQUIATOMIC NiMn ALLOY

open access: yes, 1982
The intermetallic compound NiMn undergoes a series of transformations from the high temperature f.c.c γ-phase, via an intermediate β-phase with CsCl type structure to a low temperature tetragonal θ phase with CuAuI type structure.

HWTS 50 Tool Steel Tailored for Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Sliding Wear of Bare Surfaces and Nitriding Response in Comparison with 18Ni300 and AISI H13

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work investigates the wear resistance and nitriding behavior of PBF‐LB/M‐processed Osprey HWTS 50, a lean hot work tool steel. Three heat treatment conditions are compared to conventional wrought H13, H11, and PBF‐LB/M 18Ni300. The study highlights HWTS 50's enhanced nitrogen diffusion, deeper nitriding hardness depth, and comparable or improved ...

Magnetic field-induced reverse martensitic transformation in NiMnGaCu alloy

open access: yes, 2011
The reverse martensitic transformation was monitored by testing the x-ray diffraction patterns with increasing temperatures in an Ni46Mn33Ga17Cu4 alloy. A large magnetization change from a weak-magnetic martensite phase to a ferromagnetic austenite phase
