Influence of Strain Rate on the Strain Hardening Behavior of a Lean Duplex Stainless Steel

open access: yesMetalMat, EarlyView.
The aim of this study was to examine how strain rate influences the compressive strain‐hardening behavior of a lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101. Microstructural analysis using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) revealed a strain‐induced austenite‐to‐martensite transformation.

The constitution of martensite volume fraction in Fe-31wt%Ni-0.02wt%C

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
This paper analyzes the constitution of martensite volume fraction, that is, the size-distribution of martensite units in quenched-transformed austenite in the microstructure. We correlate this distribution to the martensite shape-strain relaxation.

Application of Machine Learning in Heat Treatment Process Design of Carburized Steel

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
To accelerate heat treatment design, we constructed a closed‐loop machine learning strategy involving multi‐source datasets and feature screening. The optimized model accurately predicts hardness and friction coefficients, successfully guiding the process optimization for two typical carburized steels with high experimental consistency.

Influence of Steel Recycling on Phase Transformation in Medium‐Manganese Third‐Generation Advanced High‐Strength Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
On the pathway to climate‐neutral steel production, recycling fractions will necessarily increase over time. Since alloying elements will enrich progressively, as they cannot be removed economically from the melt, processes need to be adjusted.

Recycling‐Induced Copper Contamination of a 42CrMo4 Quench and Tempering Steel—Scaling and Susceptibility to Hot Shortness

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
In this study, the susceptibility to copper‐induced hot shortness of the alloy 42CrMo4 is investigated by different hot tensile tests, as well as by a detailed analysis of the formed oxidation products. While an enrichment of metallic copper and a penetration of the grain boundaries are observed, no critical reduction of the tensile test properties can

Analysis of structural and functional properties of Ni50Mn30Ga20 after plastic deformation

open access: yes, 2022
S.133Some NiMnGa single crystals exhibit a magnetic-field-induced strain (MFIS) in the low temperature martensitic phase. In order to obtain such MFIS in polycrystalline samples, the use of textured samples is most promising.

Alteration of Phase Transformation Behavior and Prior Austenite Grain Structure Due to Elevated Tramp Element Concentrations in a Hypoeutectoid Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.

Influence of plastic strain on deformation-induced martensitic transformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The effects of plastic strain on deformation-induced martensitic transformations have been investigated experimentally. Austenitic metastable stainless steel samples were heated to a temperature at which the transformation is suppressed and were ...

Influence of Higher Tramp Element Level on the Weldability of Automotive Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The use of green recycled steels is constantly expanding in the automotive industry. The increase in tramp elements resulting from the recycling of steel is problematic. Tramp elements can lead to a negative influence on the weldability. To understand the influence, the welding properties of three green steels are characterized. The potential limits of

Lavrentiev Phenomenon in Microstructure Theory

open access: yes, 1996
A variational problem arising as a model in martensitic phase transformation including surface energy is studied. It explains the complex, multi-dimensional pattern of twin branching which is often observed in a martensitic phase near the austenite ...
