Temperature Dependent Complex Refractive Index (CRI) of Hexagonal Ice in the Range 150–270 K: Infrared and Far‐Infrared Transmission Measurements at the AILES Beamline

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract The complex refractive index (CRI) of ice is one of the main parameters driving the optical properties of ice clouds and frozen surfaces, hence their climate impact. While already characterized at short wavelengths, ice CRI has never been measured across the infrared range at temperatures relevant to Earth.

PhoDEx — a low-cost mission to explore the Martian satellite system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
For ESA’s M4 Medium Mission Call, we proposed a low-cost mission to explore the Martian satellite system. PhoDEx (Phobos Deimos Explorer) will carry out investigations on the origin and evolution of the Martian satellites, as well as their interactions with the environments.

Recent and fossil deposits of dark material in Martian Craters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
As a result of weathering and aeolian processes a fine-grained dark material is distributed all over the Martian surface. On crater floors it is frequently accumulated as dunes. Mobile dunes are probably built and shifted by the actual wind fields.

A new reduction of USNO photographic plates of the Martian satellites

open access: yes, 2012
Thanks to the new technologies, a new astrometric reduction of old photographic plates can provide a better knowledge of the orbital motion of planetary satellites. In the cadre of the FP7 european project, USNO plates were digitized with the new generation DAMIAN scanning machine.
