This study addresses the ecological role of coarse woody debris (CWD) as a thermally buffered microhabitat for saproxylic organisms in temperate eastern US forests. We measured internal and external log temperatures across four seasons in Southern Appalachian forests to test how log diameter, decay stage, and moisture influence thermal buffering.

Masers in starburst galaxies [PDF]
AbstractMasers in starburst galaxies are outstanding probes of a range of phenomena related to galaxy and black hole evolution, and offer unique high brightness temperature illumination that can be used to probe small scales in the host galaxy and in our own.

ABSTRACT This study examines the evolution of climate change discourse in the United States Congress from 1987 to 2017, employing natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze floor speeches. Using a la carte (ALC) word embeddings, we investigate how Democratic and Republican members of Congress frame climate change, focusing on denialist ...

Survey of Oxygen-rich AGB Stars Using the KVN 4 Receiving Bands—SMASTES. I.
Simultaneous observations of 19 H _2 O and SiO maser and thermal lines were performed toward 155 M-type oxygen-rich (O-rich) AGB stars. We used the upgraded four-band (22/43/86/129 GHz) wide receiving system of the Korean VLBI Network (KVN).

Protostellar Outflows at the EarliesT Stages (POETS)
Context. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) disk winds (DWs) can be responsible for removing angular momentum from the accretion disks of protostars, for driving mass accretion and disk evolution and dispersal, and, ultimately, for setting the conditions for ...

Applications for masers — the microwave equivalent of lasers — have been hindered by their extreme operating conditions and the inability to produce continuous emissions. A diamond maser overcomes these limitations. Applications for masers — the microwave equivalent of lasers — have been hindered by their extreme operating conditions and the inability ...

Fungal Diversity and Potential Health Benefits of Mycophagy in Chacma Baboons (Papio ursinus)
Free‐ranging chacma baboons (Papio ursinus) in Nature's Valley, South Africa, of multiple age/sex classes eat diverse fungi (10 identified to species level, 3 to genus level). We assess potential nutritional, medicinal and ecosystem implications of consumption of these fungi based on human and other mammalian mycophagy literature.

The Investigation of Helicon Maser
Radio frequency magnetoplasmic waves know as helicons will propagate in solid – state plasmas of metals and semiconductors when a strong magnetic field is applied. In Helicon Maser the helicons are excited by RFs much higher than the Helicon generation frequency.
