Conformational Switching of Proteins on Material Surfaces Enabled by Peptide‐Oriented Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Responsive biointerfaces could be achieved using conformationally responsive proteins; however, their interconversion can be lost upon surface adsorption. Herein, we demonstrate that the incorporation a Au binding peptide into calmodulin allows for binding control on Au wherein the protein retains conformational switching. This capability was confirmed

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

The Influence of Face Masks on Micro-Expression Recognition

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences
This study aimed to explore the influence of various mask attributes on the recognition of micro-expressions (happy, neutral, and fear) and facial favorability under different background emotional conditions (happy, neutral, and fear). The participants were asked to complete an ME (micro-expression) recognition task, and the corresponding accuracy (ACC)

Method for generating masks on face images and systems for their recognition

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики
The problem of masked face recognition is investigated. It is shown that real masks of various shapes, textures and colors have become a problem for state-of-the-art face recognition systems.

Memristive‐Gated RC‐Delay Synaptic Transistors for Time‐Encoded Analog in‐Memory Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Memristive‐Gated Transistor for Time‐Encoded Analog In‐Memory Computing — By exploiting the RC delay of a self‐rectifying interface‐type memristor, nonlinear I–V distortion is structurally bypassed, enabling 3‐bit nonvolatile memory, spike‐timing‐based analog encoding, and hardware‐calibrated reservoir‐computing validation within a unified device ...

Bio‐Inspired Artificial Ionic Mechanoreceptor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A skin‐inspired artificial mechanoreceptor based on ionic interactions is presented for biomimetic tactile sensing. Pressure‐driven ionic redistribution within microfluidic channels generates a self‐powered electrical signal without external bias. The generated waveform exhibits mechanoreceptor‐like temporal features, including overshoot and undershoot,

Masked Face Recognition with Generative-to-Discriminative Representations [PDF]

open access: yes
Masked face recognition is important for social good but challenged by diverse occlusions that cause insufficient or inaccurate representations. In this work, we propose a unified deep network to learn generative-to-discriminative representations for ...

Dirac‐Source Linear X‐Ray Detection Diode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Monolayer graphene imparts near linear current‐voltage behavior to a perovskite X‐ray detection diode, contrasting with conventional diode‐like responses. Exploiting graphene's Dirac dispersion and a Schottky‐like back‐to‐back junction, the device achieves six‐orders‐of‐magnitude dark current suppression while retaining linearity over 200 V, enabling ...

Nanoconfinement‐Induced Second‐Harmonic Circular Dichroism via Chirality–Ferroelectric Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoconfinement of a ferroelectric nematic liquid crystal within a chiral nanoporous sponge yields an enhanced second‐harmonic generation circular dichroism (|gSHG–CD| ≈ 1.1). Polarization‐resolved analysis suggests an additional magnetic‐dipole‐associated nonlinear contribution under nanoconfinement, highlighting chirality–ferroelectric coupling as a ...
