Masked response priming in expert typists

Consciousness and Cognition, 2010
In masked priming tasks responses are usually faster when prime and target require identical rather than different responses. Previous research has extensively manipulated the nature and number of response-affording stimuli. However, little is known about the constraints of masked priming regarding the nature and number of response alternatives.

The Time-Course of Masked Negative Priming

Experimental Psychology, 2009
Negative priming (NP) refers to the finding that reaction times and errors increase when a previously ignored prime distractor is presented as a target. In a variant of this task, the prime display is composed of only a single masked distractor that is followed by the simultaneous presentation of a target and a distractor in the probe display.

Is Masked Neighbor Priming Inhibitory?

Experimental Psychology, 2007
Abstract. To investigate neighbor effects in visual word recognition, the masked priming technique holds considerable advantages over unprimed methods, because a target word is used as its own control. However, inhibitory neighbor effects obtained with masked priming are still open for different interpretations, because the primes differ across ...

Negative Priming with Masked Distractor-Only Prime Trials

Experimental Psychology, 2005
Abstract. The literature yields inconsistent evidence for negative priming (NP) following masked distractor-only prime trials. We contrast two different hypotheses on the inconsistent findings: one - which is most compatible with the temporal discrimination theory - that relates the sign of priming effects to the absence vs.

Negative priming in schizophrenia: effects of masking and prime presentation time

Schizophrenia Research, 2001
Beech et al. [Br. J. Clin. Psychol. 28 (1989) 109--116] previously reported attenuated negative priming in schizophrenic patients that was interpreted as a sign of dysfunctional cognitive inhibition. However, subsequent research has provided mixed results.

Retrospective Priming and Masked Semantic Priming: The Interfering Effects of Prime Activation

Journal of Memory and Language, 1994
Abstract This paper presents three experiments that examine the relationship between retrospective priming and masked semantic priming. Using the pre-cueing paradigm (Hirshman and Durante, 1992), retrospective priming was varied by manipulating prime presentation duration, prior exposure to the primes, and prime-target SOA.
