Adore-able not adorable? Orthographic underspecification studied with masked repetition priming

open access: yes, 2009
This paper reports three masked priming experiments examining morphological priming with nonword primes, using targets that were incompletely represented in the primes due to a missing "e'' at the morpheme boundary (e.g., adorage-adore).

Unlocking Terahertz Steganography: Authentication of Hidden Images in Flexible Media

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hidden information in multilayered devices, such as steganographic portraits, is detected and authenticated using reflection‐mode terahertz time‐domain imaging. Image reconstruction relies on a dedicated figure‐of‐merit obtained by integrating the signal intensity over the time‐window associated with the reflection from the metallic mirror backing the ...

Masked priming treatment for anomia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This Phase 1 single-subject study explored the use of masked repetition priming to improve word retrieval for picture naming in anomia. Masked priming is one means of activating the implicit language processes that typically support rapid, accurate use ...

The influence of intention on masked priming: A study with semantic classification of words

open access: yes, 2007
Unconscious perception is commonly described as a phenomenon that is not under intentional control and relies on automatic processes. We challenge this view by arguing that some automatic processes may indeed be under intentional control, which is ...

Hierarchically Wrinkled Silver Ink as a Platform for Fully Integrated Stretchable Electronic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Silver Hierarchical Responsive ink (SHRink), a universal approach for the fabrication of highly stretchable interconnects, wirings, and skin‐interfaced electrodes, is realized through low‐cost, scalable spray‐printing and transfer‐printing. The SHRink demonstrates high electrical conductivity (1.2E04 S cm−1) and large stretchability (235% max fracture ...

Morphological Processing of Turkish Compound Words: The Case of Compounds Formed by Two Root Words

open access: yesDilbilim Araştırmaları Dergisi
This study investigates how morphologically complex compound words in Turkish are processed in real time by monolingual Turkish speakers. To this end, compound words that are in their root forms are categorized as either semantically transparent (e.g ...

Spatial Stiffness Programming in Single‐Filament Material Extrusion Through Data‐Driven Thermal Foaming

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Single‐filament material extrusion enables spatial stiffness programming through locally controlled thermal foaming of TPU. A data‐driven G‐code framework tunes porosity from 15.7% to 40.7% and hardness from 90 to 63 Shore A within and across layers. Monolithic hands and soft actuators consequently achieve distinct programmed motions without material ...

The flexible encoding of syllable positions in Korean Hangul

open access: yesScientific Reports
It has been suggested that readers encode letter positions flexibly during word recognition, as evidenced by studies showing that misspelled words can still be read naturally (e.g., transposed letter effects).

The multiple pronunciations of Japanese kanji: A masked priming investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
English words with an inconsistent grapheme-to-phoneme conversion or with more than one pronunciation (homographic heterophones; e.g., lead-/l epsilon d/, /lid/) are read aloud more slowly than matched controls, presumably due to competition processes ...

Dynamic Fluorescence Modulation via Light‐Driven Competitive Protonation

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐component molecular system demonstrates reversible, light‐driven fluorescence write–erase cycling and thermal imaging. Illumination of a merocyanine photoacid transfers a proton to a highly efficient fluorescent pyridinium dye, switching its emission color; thermal relaxation reverses the process in the dark.
