Random excitation of a system with bilinear hysteresis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
An analysis is made of the response of a system with bilinear hysteresis to random excitation. It is shown that for moderately large inputs, the additional damping created by the bilinear hysteresis decreases the mean squared deflection compared with ...

Out-of-Plane Strengthening of Masonry-Infilled RC Frames with Textile-Reinforced Mortar Jackets

open access: yesJournal of composites for construction, 2019
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the use of textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) jackets as a means of improving the out-of-plane performance of masonry infill walls in reinf...

Ground vibration isolation using mass scatters: A comparative study with trench barriers and wave‐impeding blocks

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Ground‐borne vibrations are a frequent source of environmental problems. A full‐scale experiment is conducted to validate a 3D numerical model in order to analyze the efficiency of three methods of isolation. Trench barriers and wave‐impeding blocks are impractical and expensive methods of isolation, but mass scatters appear to be an efficient ...

Damage-imperfection indicators for the assessment of multi-leaf masonry walls under different conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The complexity of multi-leaf masonry walls suggests further researches on the dy- namic behaviour mainly characterized by incoherent response between the different layers.

Experimental pull-out tests and design indications for strength anchors installed in masonry walls

open access: yesMaterials Structure, 2020
This study deals with the identification of the mechanical behavior of chemical anchors embedded in masonry walls. 108 pull-out tests are carried out in five types of masonry walls built with clay brick or vertically perforated units with cement mortar ...

Geometric Limits for the Seismic Design of Unreinforced Masonry Fence Walls

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current seismic design standards require masonry free‐standing walls to comply with regulations for masonry structural walls. Applying these current seismic design standards to fence walls (free‐standing walls) may be inappropriate due to the different restraint conditions between fence walls and structural walls.

Risk‐Targeted Seismic Design Maps for Mexico

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Risk‐targeted seismic design maps for Mexico are presented. Risk‐targeted approach establishes an acceptable risk level, measured with the annual collapse probability, to determine seismic design coefficients. Seismic design maps are calculated for an annual probability of collapse of 1 × 10−4 and 2 × 10−4.

Seismic Enhancement of Masonry‐Infilled Substandard Reinforced Concrete Frames Using Lightweight Steel Exoskeleton

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A significant portion of existing reinforced concrete (RC) structures in seismically active regions was constructed prior to the adoption of modern seismic design standards, leaving them highly susceptible to earthquake‐induced damage. The vulnerabilities of these structures, often exacerbated by material degradation, have been starkly ...
