Differentiation between the terms ”confined masonry“ and ”infill masonry“

Mauerwerk, 2018
AbstractThis publication concerns the differentiation between the terms ”confined masonry“ and ”infill masonry“ using the example of the national technical approval Z‐17.1‐1145 – POROTON S9 MW –vertically perforated clay units with integrated thermal insulation using thin layer mortar [1].

Fragility functions and floor spectra of RC masonry infilled frames: influence of mechanical properties of masonry infills

Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, 2018
A wide number of experimental studies conducted in latest years pointed out the high influence of the mechanical properties of masonry units and mortar bed joints on lateral strength and stiffness of masonry panels. This feature significantly modifies the global response of infilled frames under seismic actions as well as the local interaction ...

Behaviour and analysis of masonry‐infilled frames

Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2002
AbstractMasonry infills are frequently used as interior partitions and exterior walls in buildings. They are usually treated as non‐structural elements, and their interaction with the bounding frame is often ignored in design. The performance of such structures during an earthquake has attracted major attention. Even though frame–infill interaction has

In-Plane Analysis of Masonry Infill Materials

Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction, 2001
Simple methods for determining the corner crushing strength and the in-plane stiffness of masonry infills are developed. The methods are applicable to structural clay tile, clay brick, and concrete masonry infills and to both steel and concrete bounding frames.

Seismic Reliability of Masonry-Infilled RC Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2001
This study focuses on the probabilistic assessment of reinforced concrete (RC) frames infilled with clay brick walls and subjected to earthquake loading. The adopted methodology extends from that previously developed by the writers for bare RC frames by the introduction of additional random variables to account for the uncertainty in the masonry ...

Strengthening masonry infill walls with reinforced plaster

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2010
One technique for strengthening masonry infill walls against seismic lateral forces permitted by the Turkish Seismic Code is to add a plaster layer with mesh reinforcement to one face of the wall. The study described in this paper was performed to test and analyse the effectiveness of this technique for lateral loads.

Seismic Vulnerability of Masonry Infilled Reinforced Concrete Frames

2012
This study assesses the seismic vulnerability of ductile reinforced concrete frames with masonry infill walls, utilizing nonlinear dynamic analysis of building models. The evaluation is based on structures designed and detailed according to Eurocodes.

Experimental Evaluation of Masonry-Infilled RC Frames

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1996
The influence of masonry infill panels on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) frames that were designed in accordance with current code provisions are investigated. Two types of frames are considered. One was designed for wind loads and the other for strong eqrthquake forces.

DAMAGE ASSESSMENT OF MASONRY INFILLED FRAMES

2014
There are many different parameters that affect the behavior of masonry-infilled reinforced concrete frames under earthquake loadings and it is difficult to predict. Selection of the parameters, that have the greatest impact on the response system, was carried out on the EDIF database of 113 one- storey one- bay infilled frame tests processed by ...

Analytical modeling of masonry infills with openings

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2009
In order to perform a step-by-step force-displacement response analysis or dynamic timehistory analysis of large buildings with masonry infilled R/C frames, a continuous force-deformation model based on an equivalent strut approach is proposed for masonry infill panels containing openings.
