Recent Results on Masonry Infill Walls

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
The paper summarizes the main research findings on masonry infill walls which were obtained within the framework of a comprehensive NSF-NEESR-SG project directed by Prof. Benson Shing at UC San Diego (Shing et al. 2009). The main focus of this contribution are experimental and computational observations on 2/3 scale unreinforced masonry panels ...

Strengthening masonry infill walls with reinforced plaster

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2010
One technique for strengthening masonry infill walls against seismic lateral forces permitted by the Turkish Seismic Code is to add a plaster layer with mesh reinforcement to one face of the wall. The study described in this paper was performed to test and analyse the effectiveness of this technique for lateral loads.

Innovative System for Earthquake Resistant Masonry Infill Walls

ce/papers, 2018
Severe damages of masonry infill walls in reinforced concrete and steel frames have been observed after many earthquakes. Typically, masonry infill walls are loaded not just in-plane and out-of-plane but also simultaneously in both directions. While the damage due to the in-plane loading is caused by the increase of interstory drift, out-of-plane ...

Seismic evaluation of reinforced concrete structures infilled with masonry infill walls

Asian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2019
The current research work aims to investigate the seismic performance of the reinforced concrete structures fully, as well as, partially infilled with masonry infill (MI) walls. For that, a numerical study of three groups of two-dimensional framed structure has been conducted under dynamic time–history analysis. The three building groups are classified

Strengthening of Infill Masonry Walls with FRP Materials

Journal of Composites for Construction, 2011
This paper evaluates the effectiveness of different externally bonded glass fiber–reinforced polymer (GFRP) systems for increasing the out-of-plane resistance of infill masonry walls to loading. The research included a comprehensive experimental program comprising 14 full-scale specimens, including four unstrengthened (control) specimens and 10 ...

Interval finite element analysis of masonry-infilled walls

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2012
This paper strongly addresses to the problem of the mechanical systems in which parameters are uncertain and bounded. Interval calculation is used to find sharp bounds of the structural parameters for infilled frame system modeled with finite element method.

Blast response of GFRP-strengthened infill masonry walls

Construction and Building Materials, 2016
Abstract Recent spurt in terrorist activities throughout the globe have drawn the attention of engineers and scientists to the vulnerability of buildings and infrastructure to blast loads. The failure of infill masonry walls has been widely witnessed even in low magnitude blasts.
