Decoupling of infills and its benefits for the design concept of RC structures and masonry infill walls

The poor behaviour of masonry infills during previous earthquakes has prompted both researchers and practitioners to find solutions that can improve their behaviour under seismic loading. The basic demand was to prevent a devastating level of infill damage since, in many earthquakes, loss due to infill damage was the most dominant.
