Simplified Macro-Model for Infill Masonry Panels
Journal of Earthquake Engineering, 2010In structural analyses, masonry infill walls are commonly considered to be non structural elements. However, the response of reinforced concrete buildings to earthquake loads can be substantially affected by the influence of infill walls. In this article, an improved numerical model for the simulation of the behavior of masonry infill walls subjected ...

DRIFT-BASED FRAGILITY ASSESSMENT OF MASONRY INFILLS
Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (COMPDYN 2015), 2017Masonry infills represent one of the prevailing types of non-structural elements in buildings of both Western and Eastern modern architecture. Recent seismic events have provided evidence that damage on masonry infills can lead not only to large economic losses but also to significant injuries and even fatalities.

Behaviour and analysis of masonry‐infilled frames
Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2002AbstractMasonry infills are frequently used as interior partitions and exterior walls in buildings. They are usually treated as non‐structural elements, and their interaction with the bounding frame is often ignored in design. The performance of such structures during an earthquake has attracted major attention. Even though frame–infill interaction has

In-Plane Analysis of Masonry Infill Materials
Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction, 2001Simple methods for determining the corner crushing strength and the in-plane stiffness of masonry infills are developed. The methods are applicable to structural clay tile, clay brick, and concrete masonry infills and to both steel and concrete bounding frames.

Behaviour of masonry infilled steel frames
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1989Masonry shear panels used as infilling in steel frames are investigated experimentally. Twenty-eight large-scale specimens were tested to ultimate panel strength under in-plane, horizontal loading applied at roof level. Of the parameters varied in the test series, interface conditions between panel edges and frame were found to significantly affect ...

Recent Results on Masonry Infill Walls
Advanced Materials Research, 2010The paper summarizes the main research findings on masonry infill walls which were obtained within the framework of a comprehensive NSF-NEESR-SG project directed by Prof. Benson Shing at UC San Diego (Shing et al. 2009). The main focus of this contribution are experimental and computational observations on 2/3 scale unreinforced masonry panels ...

Transverse Resistance of Masonry Infills
ACI Structural Journal, 2010In this paper, a confined infill panel previously experimented under out-of-plane loading is modeled and analyzed by the dynamic explicit method (DEM). This method is shown to have a good estimation of the experimental results, and is thus adopted to investigate the out-of-plane behavior of an infill model.
