The Momentum Principle Measures Mass Rate of Flow
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1954Abstract The operation of a flowmeter which accurately measures the mass flow of fluid is described. Compared with conventional flowmeters, this instrument has many advantages, including a linear torque output easily adaptable to direct reading, remote indication, or control initiation. It is more easily installed in pipe lines than most

Prediction of leakage mass flow rate through gas springs
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1987A general analysis has been carried out, dealing with gas spring operation, with particular reference to free-piston Stirling engine applications. Previous work, based on the assumption that losses due to gas leakage are negligible, provided an energetic model together with an experimental method suitable for the evaluation of the convection heat ...

Measuring Flow Angle and Mass Flow Rate in an Unknown Flowfield
Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1979A data reduction technique applicable to constant-temperature hot-film and hot-wire probes is presented which is used to determine flow angle and mass flow rate in an unknown flowfield over a wide range of flow conditions at supersonic and hypersonic velocities.

Mass flow rate of granular material flowing from tilted bins
Powder Technology, 2015Abstract We report experiments performed to describe the behavior of the experimental mass flow rate of cohesionless granular material, m β expt , through circular orifices of diameter D made on sidewalls of tilted bins. In such experiments, the influence of the wall thickness of the bin, w , and the tilt angle with respect to the vertical, β ,

Mass flow rate for nearly-free molecular slit flow
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1969The local and average mass flow rates for nearly free molecular flow through a two-dimensional slit are determined for several tank pressure ratios. The equilibrium gas in the two tanks and the container walls are assumed to be at the same temperature and the Willis iterative method with the Bhatnager-Gross-Krook model is used for the analysis.

A method to measure mass and volume flow rates of two-phase flows
International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 1987Abstract The present paper describes a method to measure simultaneously the individual mass and volume flow rates of a particulate two-phase fluid flowing through ducts. A mass flow meter, based on Coriolis force measurements, and an inductive volume flow rate meter were employed in sequence and measured the total (volume and mass) flow rates v

Measurement Science and Technology, 2007
In a previous publication, the authors presented a transient mass flow rate metering technique for pulsating pipe flows and its outstanding performance was demonstrated experimentally for fuel injection nozzles. In the present paper, the application of the mass flow rate metering technique is described for pulsating air flows.

Thermometric Methods of Measuring the Rate of Mass Flow
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1965By measurement of the unit-mass and the unit-time rates of exchange of energy between a flowing fluid and a heating or actuating source, the rates of mass flow can be directly determined, provided that certain thermodynamic properties of the fluid are known.

Internal flow field and mass flow rate of 2DCD ejector nozzles
34th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1998One of the most promising exhaust nozzles for future super/hypersonic transports will be a nonaxisymmetric variable geometry nozzle and more than likely the ejector nozzle which introduces bleed/bypass air from the intake section in order to solve inlet/engine flow mismatch, cool nozzle walls, reduce external drags, and thus improve overall performance
