Spatially and temporally resolved ice loss in High Mountain Asia and the Gulf of Alaska observed by CryoSat-2 swath altimetry between 2010 and 2019 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2021
Glaciers are currently the largest contributor to sea level rise after ocean thermal expansion, contributing ∼ 30 % to the sea level budget. Global monitoring of these regions remains a challenging task since global estimates rely on a variety of ...

Passive Microwave Brightness Temperature Assimilation to Improve Snow Mass Estimation Across Complex Terrain in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2021
An ensemble Kalman filter is used to assimilate Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-2 (AMSR2) observations of passive microwave (PMW) brightness temperatures (spectral differences, $\Delta T_b$) into land surface model estimates of snow mass over ...

Multi-year ACSM measurements at the central European research station Melpitz (Germany) – Part 1: Instrument robustness, quality assurance, and impact of upper size cutoff diameter [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2020
The aerosol chemical speciation monitor (ACSM) is nowadays widely used to identify and quantify the main components of fine particles in ambient air.

Contrasting sources and processes of particulate species in haze days with low and high relative humidity in wintertime Beijing [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2020
Although there are many studies of particulate matter (PM) pollution in Beijing, the sources and processes of secondary PM species during haze periods remain unclear.

Numerical analysis of agricultural emissions impacts on PM2.5 in China using a high-resolution ammonia emission inventory [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2020
China is one of the largest agricultural countries in the world. Thus, NH3 emission from agricultural activities in China considerably affects the country's regional air quality and visibility.

Particle mass formulae [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Essays, 2012
Important relations among some particle masses are investigated. The eta-prime / eta masses’ ratio is noted to be a fraction of integers with high precision. The masses of muon, kaon, eta, and neutron are observed to fit a linear mass formula within an accuracy of 0.25 MeV.

Measurement report: The effect of aerosol chemical composition on light scattering due to the hygroscopic swelling effect [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2021
Liquid water in aerosol particles has a significant effect on their optical properties, especially on light scattering, whose dependence on chemical composition is investigated here using measurements made in southern Beijing in 2019.

The Pion Mass Formula [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Physics, 1998
The often used Gell-Mann–Oakes–Renner (GMOR) mass formula for Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons in QCD, such as the pions, involves the condensate ·q q Ò f p and the quark current masses. Within the context of the Global Colour Model (GCM) for QCD a manifestly different formula was recently found.

Contrasting physical properties of black carbon in urban Beijing between winter and summer [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2019
Black carbon (BC) is known to have major impacts on both human health and climate. The populated megacity represents the most complex anthropogenic BC emissions where the sources and related impacts are very uncertain.
