More Voices Than Ever? Quantifying Media Bias in Networks [PDF]
Social media, such as blogs, are often seen as democratic entities that allow more voices to be heard than the conventional mass or elite media. Some also feel that social media exhibits a balancing force against the arguably slanted elite media. A systematic comparison between social and mainstream media is necessary but challenging due to the scale ...

Against mass media trends: minority growth in cultural globalization [PDF]
We investigate the collective behavior of a globalized society under the influence of endogenous mass media trends. The mass media trend is a global field corresponding to the statistical mode of the states of the agents in the system. The interaction dynamics is based on Axelrod's rules for the dissemination of culture.

TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

A data-driven model for influenza transmission incorporating media effects [PDF]
Numerous studies have attempted to model the effect of mass media on the transmission of diseases such as influenza, however quantitative data on media engagement has until recently been difficult to obtain. With the recent explosion of "big data" coming from online social media and the like, large volumes of data on a population's engagement with mass

Setting the Agenda: Different strategies of a Mass Media in a model of cultural dissemination [PDF]
Day by day, people exchange opinions about a given new with relatives, friends, and coworkers. In most cases, they get informed about a given issue by reading newspapers, listening to the radio, or watching TV, i.e., through a Mass Media (MM). However, the importance of a given new can be stimulated by the Media by assigning newspaper's pages or time ...

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Autorzy podkreślają różnice między poznaniem filozoficznym a kształtowaniem obrazu świata w oparciu o wiedzę pochodzącą ze współczesnych mass mediów. Wykorzystując m. in pojęcia homo videns i pustego ja, podkreślają negatywne cechy osobowości człowieka kształtowanego przez mass media.

On dynamics of multi-phase elastic-plastic media [PDF]
The paper is concerned with dynamics of multi-phase media consisting of a solid permeable material and a compressible Newtonian fluid. Governing macroscopic equations are derived starting from the space-averaged microscopic mass and momentum balances. The Reynolds stress models (i.e., momentum dispersive fluxes) are discussed, and a suitable model is ...
