Relation of Muscle Mass and Fat Mass to Cardiovascular Disease Mortality
The American Journal of Cardiology, 2016We evaluated the relation between components of body composition and mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Dual x-ray absorptiometry body composition data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999 to 2004 was linked to total and CVD mortality data 1999 to 2006 in 6,451 patients with CVD.

Mass mortality of starlings roosting by a roadside
Veterinary Record, 2013IN recent winters mass deaths of flocking wild birds, popularly termed ‘aflockalypses’, usually caused by adverse weather or in-flight trauma, have made the news. With winter commencing, the time when passerine flocking and communal roosting usually occurs, it seems appropriate to mention a flock mass mortality incident in the UK, which caused some ...

Marine Mammal Mass Mortalities
2002Marine mammal mass strandings and large-scale mortalities have attracted considerable scientific and public attention in recent years. Investigations of the cause or causes of mass mortalities have also expanded knowledge of harmful agents capable of threatening marine mammal populations.

Mass mortality events and the role of necrophagous invertebrates
Current Opinion in Insect Science, 2017Scale is important in understanding and applying concepts in ecology. Historically, the mechanisms regulating necrophagous arthropod community structure have been well explored on a single vertebrate carcass. However, practically nothing is known of whether such findings can be extrapolated to cases where large numbers of carcasses have been introduced

Mass screening for neuroblastoma and mortality in birth cohorts
International Journal of Cancer, 1997Mortality resulting from neuroblastoma in birth cohorts in both Sapporo City and the whole of Japan was investigated to evaluate the effects of a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) mass screening program, targeting on 6 month-old infants.

Body Mass Index and Mortality in Cardiogenic Shock
ASAIO JournalWe explored the association of body mass index (BMI) with mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS). Using the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group registry, we assessed the impact of BMI on mortality using restricted cubic splines in a multivariable logistic regression model adjusting for age, gender, and race.

Coral Recruitment Following a Mass Mortality Event
AMBIO: A Journal of the Human Environment, 2002Coral recruitment, following the coral bleaching episode in 1998, was studied on the Kenyan coast. Scleractinian recruits representing 31 genera from 13 families were recorded in 2001, the dominant families at all sites being the Pocilloporidae, Poritidae, and Faviidae.
