Open PFLOW: Creation and evaluation of an open dataset for typical people mass movement in urban areas

open access: yes, 2017
Understanding people flow at a citywide level is critical for urban planning and commercial development. Thanks to the ubiquity of human location tracking devices, many studies on people mass movement with mobility logs have been conducted. However, high

Relating mass movement with electrical self-potential signals

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2018
Landslides present a latent danger to lives and infrastructure worldwide. Often such mass movements are caused by increasing pore pressure. The electrical self-potential (SP) method has been applied in a broad range of monitoring studies.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Towards multi-frequency SAR-based soil moisture retrieval: preliminary assessment at the Petacciato landslide, Italy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Remote Sensing
Soil moisture (SM) plays a crucial role in hydrological processes and slope stability. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) enables all-weather, physically based SM retrievals at spatial and temporal scales relevant to landslide monitoring.

Unprecedented Winter Rainfall Initiates Large Snow Avalanche and Mass Movement Cycle in New Zealand's Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o te Moana

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
An exceptional July 2022 winter storm brought 550 mm of precipitation to the Southern Alps of New Zealand. A series of alpine mass movements occurred during the storm, including a widespread snow avalanche cycle, debris flows, and erosion from rain ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

When Time Prevails: The Perils of Overlooking Temporal Landscape Evolution in Landslide Susceptibility Predictions

open access: yesRemote Sensing
This study highlights the importance of incorporating temporal landscape dynamics in landslide susceptibility assessments (LSAs). Two models are compared: one integrates multi-temporal data, while the other relies solely on present conditions. Artificial

The Anomalously Old Bush Stream Rock Avalanche and Its Implications for Landslide Inventories in Dynamic Landscapes

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
Previous dating of rock slope failures in most glaciated mountain chains has revealed almost exclusively young, mostly Holocene ages. In this study, a rock avalanche in the glaciated Rangitata Basin in Canterbury, New Zealand is mapped, described, and ...
