Microcirculatory Mass Transfer
1984The dynamics of Krogh tissue cylinders and related structures are critically reviewed to determine the roles of underlying transport and reaction processes, and the interactions between them. Emphasis is put on the gaining of insight through efficient scaling procedures, and discussion is organized about the time constants characteristic of these ...

In the last decade, a growing interest in large-pore, permeable, or flow-through particles for engineering applications as catalysts supports, adsorbents, HPLC packings, ceramic membranes, supports for mammalian cell culture/biomass growth, and building materials can be observed.

Mass transfer to a nanoelectrocatalyst
AIChE JournalAbstractThere are few studies of mass transfer to nanospheres (1 nm ≤ dp ≤ 100 nm). We have experimentally investigated the electrocatalytic reduction of hexacyanoferrate (III) to hexacyanoferrate (II) on gold nanospheres. The surface flux is insensitive to particle sizes of dp ≥ 30 nm and is essentially identical to that for a diffusion‐limited system.

Numerous papers have been devoted to modelling simultaneous diffusion and conversion of substrate by immobilized biocatalysts. In such systems the substrate is transferred from a liquid phase to a solid phase in which the reaction occurs. In many of these studies it was assumed that the rate-limiting step in the process is the diffusion of substrate ...
