Heat and mass transfer coefficients of viscous spheres
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2001Abstract The problem of mass/heat transfer from a viscous droplet is solved by using a finite-difference scheme, and a dual kind of computational grid. The steady-state Navier–Stokes and energy equations for the flow fields inside and outside a viscous sphere in a fluid of different properties are fully solved numerically for Reynolds numbers ( Re ...

Measurement of local mass transfer coefficient in biofilms
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1995AbstractLocal mass transfer rates for an electrochemically formed microsink in an aerobic biofilm was measured by a mobile microelectrode using limiting current technique. Mass transfer coefficients varied both horizontally and vertically in the biofilm.

Mass and heat transfer coefficients
2013In a blood oxygenator, the blood spends approximately 2 s passing through the device. Estimate a minimum value for h m , the mass transfer coefficient characterizing oxygen transport from the plasma to the inside of a red blood cell (RBC), such that the RBCs are completely (i.e.

Film Mass Transfer Coefficient Expressions for Electroosmotic Flows
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2000Expressions are developed and presented that could be used to determine the film mass transfer coefficient of a solute in electroosmotic flows. In contrast to pressure-driven flows at low Reynolds numbers where the film mass transfer coefficient is independent of the linear characteristic dimension of the channel for flow, in electroosmotically driven ...

Journal of Food Engineering, 2006
Increasing trade of ready to eat foods such as cookies highlights an interest in quality defects (cracking, checking due to non-homogenous moisture distribution) during baking. The most important parameter resulting in adverse quality changes is non-homogenous moisture distribution due to diffusion and external convective mass transfer coefficient.

Mass transfer characteristics and overall mass transfer coefficient in the ozone contactor
Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2005The overall mass transfer coefficient kLa,F in the flow characteristics was determined by the measurement of the diffusivity of ozone, density of aqueous solution, and viscosity. However, the measured values kLa,F in the range of 0.0096–0.0622 min-1 show large changes in hydraulic retention time, and the dissolved ...

Mass Transfer Coefficients in Vapour Extraction (VAPEX)
Canadian International Petroleum Conference, 2007Abstract The in-situ extraction of heavy oil and bitumen requires enhanced oil production techniques to sufficiently reduce the viscosity of the oil to produce it at economical rates. Vapour extraction (VAPEX) and warm VAPEX (where the solvent condenses in-situ) are two possibilities for producing highly viscous in ...

Mass transfer coefficients on truncated slabs
Chemical Engineering Science, 1969Abstract Local and average mass transfer coefficients on a sharp-edged plate and on truncated slabs of various thicknesses were obtained experimentally. The results show that the mass transfer coefficients do not only depend on the air velocity and the distance from the leading edge, but that the thickness of the slabs is also of significance.

Determination of mass-transfer coefficients during rectification
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils, 1970A method has been proposed for analyzing the resistances of the phases in the rectification of binary mixtures; the method can be used under the conditions of a straight-line equilibrium dependence. The method has been verified in the rectification of dilute mixtures.

Enhancing gas–liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient
Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, 2020Abstract Methane-based biorefineries for biofuel production by microorganisms has gained interest due to the worldwide development of shale gas as an alternative source for fossil fuels. For the practical application of biological conversion process to industrial scale, enhancement of the gas–liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) in a gas
