An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

Enhancing the Age‐Hardening Response of Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion WE43 Alloy through Microstructural Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser powder‐bed fusion (L‐PBF) can produce dense WE43 magnesium alloy parts, but their mechanical properties are limited by a nonhomogeneous microstructure. This study investigates the effects of varying direct aging (T5) and artificial age‐hardening (T6) conditions on microstructure and strength. Optimized T6 treatment significantly improves strength

Simplified measurement of the Bell parameter within quantum mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We point out that, if one accepts the validity of quantum mechanics, the Bell parameter for the polarization state of two photons can be measured in a simpler way than by the standard procedure [Clauser, Horne, Shimony, and Holt, Phys. Rev. Lett. 23, 880 (1969)]. The proposed method requires only two measurements with parallel linear-polarizer settings

Geometry‐Based Scan Curve Analysis: Rapid Method for the Evaluation of Scan Strategies in Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents rapid evaluation methods for scan strategies in powder bed fusion (PBF) of polymers with a NIR laser as an example for its application. It uses line buffer‐based calculations and point density fields to predict the performance of four different scan strategies. The methods show promising results in laser‐based PBF of polymer samples,

The Effect of the Massachusetts Reform on Health Care Utilization

open access: yesInquiry: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing, 2012
The 2006 Massachusetts health care reform expanded insurance coverage in the state to near-universal levels. As the uninsured gained coverage, their out-of-pocket costs of medical care fell, inducing them to seek more care. This paper analyzes the effect

Massachusetts Health Gaps Report: What's Driving Health Differences Across the State and How Can Those Gaps Be Closed? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Why is there so much difference in the health of residents in one county compared to other counties in the same state? In this report, the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program explores how wide gaps are throughout Massachusetts and what is driving ...
