Real fields and repeated radical extensions [PDF]

The main result of this paper is that if E is a field extension of finite odd degree over a real field Q, and if E is a repeated radical extension of Q, then every intermediate field is also a repeated radical extension of Q. This paper also contains a number of other results about repeated radical extensions.

The aim of this paper is to develop an `external' Kurosh-Amitsur radical theory of semirings and, using this approach, to obtain some fundamental results regarding two Jacobson type of radicals --- the Jacobson-Bourne, J-, radical and a very natural its variation, J_{s}-radical --- of hemirings, as well as the Brown-McCoy, R_{BM}-, radical of hemirings.

We develop the theory of topological radicals in Banach Lie algebras, consider various ways of constructing such radicals and study a family of (pre)radicals related to subalgebras and ideals of finite codimension in Banach Lie algebras. It extends to the infinite-dimensional case many results of the well known Frattini theory of Lie algebras.
