Scaling with respect to disorder in time-to-failure

open access: yes, 1997
We revisit a simple dynamical model of rupture in random media with long-range elasticity to test whether rupture can be seen as a first-order or a critical transition.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Rheological Behavior and Sensitivity of Wood-Derived Bio-Oil Modified Asphalt Binders

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The demand for bituminous materials is continuously growing; crude oil-based asphalt binders are non-renewable, and are facing rapid depletion. With the increase of petroleum-based asphalt prices, seeking an alternative, renewable material such as bio ...

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Crystal phases of soft spheres systems in a slab geometry

open access: yes, 2014
We have identified the ground state configurations of soft particles (interacting via inverse power potentials) confined between two hard, impenetrable walls.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Rheological Quantification of Bitumen Aging: Definition of a New Sensitive Parameter

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2010
Bitumen is undoubtedly the most important material in the construction and rehabilitation of flexible road pavements. By increasing the temperature, bitumen changes from brittle solid, to viscoelastic solid and finally to Newtonian fluid. The rheological

Magnetic and universal magnetocaloric behavior of rare-earth substituted DyFe0.5Cr0.5O3

open access: yes, 2017
We report the effect of partial substitution of Dy-site by rare-earths (R=Gd, Er and La)on the magnetic and magnetocaloric behavior of a mixed metal oxide DyFe0.5Cr0.5O3.Structural studies reveal that substitution of Dy by R has a minimal influence on ...

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...
