Mastication of Rubber. I. Mechanism of Plasticizing by Cold Mastication
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1952Abstract The process of cold mastication has been rationalized in terms of recognized chemical reactions, and its essential difference from the hot mastication process has been demonstrated. Many apparently unrelated phenomena occurring on cold mastication, as, for example, are collected in a recent survey, can be interpreted as specific ...

Myxoma of the masticator space
Australasian Radiology, 2007SUMMARYWe describe a rare case of a surgically proven myxoma arising within the masticator space probably from a pterygoid muscle. The lesion showed characteristic hyperintensity on T2‐weighted images and did not enhance following gadolinium.

Lymphomas of the Masticator Space
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1976Lymphomas that involved the masticatory space occurred in three patients. In one patient, the masticator space remained the sole manifestation for many years; in the other two patients, the masticator-space involvement was a local manifestation of constitutional disease.

We explore using the Outer Ear Interface (OEI) to recognize eating activities. OEI contains a 3D gyroscope and a set of proximity sensors encapsulated in an off-the-shelf earpiece to monitor jaw movement by measuring ear canal deformation. In a laboratory setting with 20 participants, OEI could distinguish eating from other activities, such as walking,

Coordination of mastication and swallowing
Dysphagia, 1992The coordination of mastication, oral transport, and swallowing was examined during intake of solids and liquids in four normal subjects. Videofluorography (VFG) and electromyography (EMG) were recorded simultaneously while subjects consumed barium-impregnated foods.

The dynamics of mastication in pigs
Archives of Oral Biology, 1976Abstract Mastication in miniature pigs was studied via microphone recording and correlated electromyography and cinematography. The results were compared with data from the literature on man and the rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta). It was concluded that anatomical similarities between pigs and higher primates are due to overall correspondences in ...

Now you have an understanding of the anatomy of the maxilla and mandible, the TMJs, and jaw musculature, we can examine how these structures work together to produce the complex actions involved in the biting and chewing of food. Technically, incision is biting a piece from a larger chunk of food and mastication is the grinding down of that piece into ...
