Masticatory ability—cineradiographic observations

Journal of Dentistry, 1972
Abstract Masticatory ability may be assessed by analysis of cineradiographic film displaying the pattern of food placement during chewing. Examination was made of subjects in three groups: with intact arches, with defective arches with few teeth missing, and with arches having only anterior teeth in occlusion.

The role of oral sensorimotor function in masticatory ability

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2004
summary  In order to investigate the relationship between oral sensorimotor ability and masticatory function, an oral stereognosis ability (OSA) test, masticatory performance and efficiency was employed for 15 dentate subjects. Subjects were instructed to orally identify OSA test pieces blindly.

The Relationship between Masticatory Movements and Masticatory Ability.

Nihon Hotetsu Shika Gakkai Zasshi, 1992
To elucidate the relationship between masticatory ability and masticatory movements, mandibular movements and EMG were recorded at the same time that masticatory efficiency was measured by a sieve-analysis. Three different sets of chewing strokes and natural chewing were measured with peanuts.

Masticatory ability and functional tooth units in Japanese adults

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2008
Summary  The purposes of this study were (i) to examine the relationship between the number of natural teeth and the number of functional tooth units in Japanese adults, (ii) to evaluate how functional tooth units relate to subjective masticatory ability and (iii) to determine the minimum number of natural teeth and functional tooth units needed to ...

Masticatory ability, denture quality, and oral conditions in edentulous subjects

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1992

A new, simple and accurate method for evaluating masticatory ability

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1989
A new method has been devised to measure masticatory ability. Pigment‐coated granules were prepared, and 730 mg (730–740 granules) were sealed in a rubber capsule. This capsule was used as a test material and was chewed by the subject under standardized conditions.

Study on masticatory movement and its ability: efficacy of a test capsule in the evaluation of masticatory movement

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2000
It has been shown that a test capsule originally designed as a simple and reliable aid to evaluate masticatory ability could help to identify the characteristics of chewing loops between individuals in evaluation of masticatory movement, and detect even a slight disorder in the stomatognathic system. In this study, the Sirognathograph® Analysing System

Oral stereognostic ability and masticatory performance in denture wearers.

The International journal of prosthodontics, 1995
This study examined the relationship between masticatory performance and oral stereognostic ability in 71 dentate individuals and 64 denture wearers. Stereognosis was evaluated in denture wearers with and without dentures in place. No significant differences (P > .05) were noted between the stereognostic scores of either group, with both groups ...

Masticatory Ability and Performance: The Effects of Mutilated and Maloccluded Dentitions

Seminars in Orthodontics, 2006
Masticatory ability and performance are commonly used summary measures of masticatory function. Numerous studies have shown that masticatory ability and performance are diminished in subjects with mutilated dentitions, as well as in subjects wearing complete or removable partial dentures.
