Alterations in the stomatognathic system due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science, 2018
Objectives: To compare the molar bite force, electromyographic activity, chewing efficiency and thickness of the masseter and temporalis muscles in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and healthy individuals.

Morphological evolution of the mammalian jaw adductor complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The evolution of the mammalian jaw during the transition from non-mammalian synapsids to crown mammals is a key event in vertebrate history and characterised by the gradual reduction of its individual bones into a single element and the concomitant ...

Accommodation of Dental Variations During Jaw Growth in Ungulate Mammals

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
Using geometric morphometrics, we compared the covariation pattern of the dentition and the palate during growth in 23 ungulate species. ABSTRACT The growth of teeth and jaw bones is intimately linked in vertebrates, especially in mammals due to their specialized dentition and limited body growth.

Performance and Maximum Functional Masticatory Force in Patients with Dentomucosal-supported and Implant-supported Removable Partial Dentures

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Estomatología
Introduction: Due to edentulousness, masticatory performance and masticatory force decrease, which implies a disorganization and decompensation of the stomatognathic system with forces provoked by mastication, which are distributed in the bone through ...

Relationships between periodontitis, tooth loss, and metabolic syndrome indicators

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigates how poor oral health impacts metabolic alterations, specifically evaluating the effects of periodontitis and tooth loss, either individually or in combination, on the number of metabolic syndrome (MetS) indicators.

Piezo‐type mechanosensitive cation channel 1 in bone biomechanics and its multidimensional distribution characteristics in skeletal tissue

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
PIEZO1 is highly correlated with mechanical stimulation, controlling bone growth and remodeling, while showing specific distribution characteristics under distinct loads. Upon dialectical review, this manuscript proposes that PIEZO1 could serve as a target for osteoporosis and a quantitative indicator for monitoring bone health in real‐time.

Analysis of potential dynamic concealed factors in the difficulty of lower third molar extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this study was to identify potential concealed variables associated with the difficulty of lower third molar (M3) extractions. To address the research purpose, we implemented a prospective study and enrolled a sample of subjects presenting
