Computational simulation of cranial soft tissue expansion on the cranium during early postnatal growth in humans

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We use computer simulations of soft tissue growth to investigate the role of simple physical deformation in the development of the postnatal human cranium. We found that simulated expansion of the model endocranial volume resulted in cranial shape changes consistent with those seen in a normative early postnatal sample, using Procrustes analyses.

Masticatory Efficiency of Mandibulectomy Patients after Oral Prosthetic Rehabilitation: Preliminary Results

open access: yeseJournal of Oral Maxillofacial Research
Objectives: This case series pilot study aimed to test the masticatory efficiency of mandibulectomy patients reconstructed with the free fibula flap using a modified mixing ability test and a digital colorimetric assessment.

A robotic chewing device for food evaluation : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering in Mechatronics at Massey University, [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The aim of this masters project was to design and develop a prototype of robotic chewing device. This project was required for use in food evaluation as it can provide standardised chewing.

Modelling marsupial mastication: The biomechanical bite model of the Linnaeus's mouse opossum Marmosa murina (Marsupialia, Didelphidae)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The marsupial masticatory apparatus has rarely been studied until recently, mainly in Australasian species. We therefore reconstructed the maximum bite forces of the South American Linnaeus's mouse opossum Marmosa murina using in vivo bites, specimen dissections, and 3D static equilibrium of the jaw muscles.

How is the third jaw joint in whales different? Diverse modes of articulation between the jaws of whales

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This study conducts the first comprehensive morphological investigation of the mandibular symphysis in whales. Using gross anatomical observation and CT cross‐sectional data, we describe diverse joint morphologies across 74 extant and fossil cetacean taxa. Toothed whales exhibit unfused, partially fused, or fully fused symphyses.

COMPORTAMENTUL LA UZURA A MATERIALULUI CERAMIC

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Medical and Dental Education, 2017
From practical point of view, parameters of interest are only those that can be clinically evaluated and measured both in vivo, and in vitro, using matched samples and adequate methods. For this research direction, it is important to determine the volume

The Relation Between Daytime Sleepiness and Awake and Sleep Bruxism Report in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
The present study enlightens the relevant issue that sleep disturbances may influence the onset of awake bruxism. Indeed, self‐reported awake bruxism, showing a significant correlation with daytime sleepiness, could be a sign of underlying tiredness and sleepiness in individuals with OSA.

Impact of a Mindfulness‐Based Intervention on Pain and Psychological Factors in Women With Chronic Painful Temporomandibular Disorders

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
This study investigates the effects of a mindfulness‐based intervention (MBI) on women aged 18–61 with chronic pain related to temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Eighty‐four participants were randomised into an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG). The IG received 8 weekly 2‐h MBI sessions plus a 4‐h immersion.

Periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A critical appraisal

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract In spite of intensive research efforts driving spectacular advances in terms of prevention and treatments, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading health burden, accounting for 32% of all deaths (World Health Organization. “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).” WHO, February 1, 2017, https://www.who.int/news‐room/fact‐sheets/detail ...
