Effect of Jaw Opening on Masticatory Muscle EMG-Force Characteristics
Journal of Dental Research, 1993This study was designed to evaluate the way in which changes in vertical jaw opening affected the relative contributions of various masticatory muscles to bite force production. EMG activity was recorded simultaneously from the masseter, and anterior, middle, and posterior temporalis muscles, during controlled isometric biting at different force ...

The validity of a method used for measuring masticatory forces
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1960Abstract An investigation into the validity of a proposed method for measuring the masticatory forces transmitted through a denture base has been presented. Laboratory equipment was built to represent a denture in the mouth. Known loads were applied, and measurement of the load was attempted.

Relationship between myoelectric activity in masticatory muscles and bite force
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1985Abstract –Myoelectric activity in the anterior and posterior temporalis and in the masseter muscle was assessed in five subjects biting unilaterally on a bite fork at 50, 100 and 200 N for 60 s. The bite fork was placed between the right first premolars and the first molars. The ipsilateral muscle activity was recorded first, and the contralateral side

Background: The polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) complex encompasses a heterogeneous group of acquired autoimmune skeletal muscle diseases called idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). Despite their histological and immunopathological differences, the end result of the affected muscles in all of these entities is the triad of chronic ...

Weakness in Mouse Masticatory Muscles by Repetitive Contractions with Forced Lengthening
Journal of Dental Research, 1995The etiology of myofascial tenderness and pain of masticatory muscles in humans is difficult to understand. Parafunctional oral habits such as tooth grinding or vigorous chewing are thought to be factors. The objective of this study was to determine if masticatory muscles are susceptible to weakness and injury induced by repetitive, dynamic, forced ...

To examine the relationships between masticatory force, electromyogram (EMG) of masticatory muscles, and jaw movement pattern, we quantitatively evaluated the effects of changing hardness of a chewing substance on these three variables.

We report here a case of masticatory disturbance evoked by trigeminal schwannoma, in which we have evaluated the changes in occlusal force and masticatory sensation before and after treatment for the tumour. The patient was a 43-year-old woman and her chief complaint was a loss of masticatory sensation on her left side.
