Relationship Between Oral Thickness Perception and Food Dynamics During Liquid Swallowing in Healthy Young Adults

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 1972-1979, November 2025.
This study examines how oral thickness sensitivity affects swallowing dynamics. Twenty‐eight healthy adults underwent testing. Those with better thickness discrimination showed more consistent swallowing patterns, especially with thicker liquids. This suggests that thickness perception helps regulate swallowing adaptation to different viscosities ...

Does the Dental Formula Predict Therapy Outcomes of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Treated With a Mandibular Advancement Device ? A Retrospective Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 2114-2123, November 2025.
This retrospective study investigated the role of dental formula in predicting the outcomes of mandibular advancement device (MAD) therapy in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). While initial OSA severity was not associated with dental status, treatment success was significantly correlated with fewer missing teeth, higher masticatory efficiency and certain

Interplay of Psychosocial, Clinical and Modulation Mechanisms in Chronic TMD‐Related Disability

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 2021-2030, November 2025.
Principal components associated with chronic TMD‐related disability. A multivariate model using principal component analysis and logistic regression identified five key components—psychosocial, clinical pain, duration and extent of pain, pain modulation, and sensory function—that interact to influence functional disability in individuals with muscular ...

The Impact of Occlusal Support Patterns in Right‐Handed Denture Wearers on Oral Function and Oral Health‐Related Quality of Life

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 1980-1989, November 2025.
This study examined how different occlusal support patterns affect oral function and quality of life in right‐handed elderly denture wearers. Reduced function was most notable in the right distal extension group. Despite asymmetry, the preferred chewing side remained consistent, especially when bilateral support was maintained.

Criterion Validity of the Isometric Contraction Test for Diagnosis of Axis I DC/TMD Considering Specific Muscles

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 1990-1999, November 2025.
This study investigates the criterion validity of the Isometric Contraction Test (ICTest) for the diagnosis of Axis I DC/TMD, with a focus on specific masticatory muscles. The test yielded higher diagnostic accuracy for the masseter and temporalis muscles compared to the medial pterygoid, particularly when assessing the referred myofascial pain subtype.

The Initial Treatment Plan Versus the Actually Performed Treatment of Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders in the First 6 Months After the Initial Visit

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 2031-2043, November 2025.
Predictors for receiving a specific type of treatment. ABSTRACT Background Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can impact on daily life, and are therefore important to treat with a fitting therapy. However, the factors that may influence the received treatment remain unknown.

Perioperative Changes in Oral Function and Association With Oral Food Intake Status in Patients Undergoing Gastric and Oesophageal Cancer Surgery

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 2066-2073, November 2025.
This study compares perioperative changes in oral function before and after surgery between patients with oral intake and those without. ABSTRACT Objectives Perioperative oral health care traditionally focuses on oral hygiene to prevent post‐surgical infection, with limited attention to oral function.

Occlusal Contact Changes in Implant‐Supported Fixed Prostheses: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 2185-2194, November 2025.
Overview of this research. ABSTRACT Background Implant‐supported prostheses frequently face both mechanical and biological challenges. Although various techniques and principles are employed to manage excessive loads, occlusal contacts often change within 6 months of placement.
