Oral Function as a Predictor of Skeletal Muscle Mass Decline in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 12, Page 2259-2268, December 2025.
Oral function‐related factors such as masticatory performance and tongue pressure are associated with low skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) among healthy older adults, emphasizing the role of oral function in systemic health and aging. ABSTRACT Background Normal oral function is pivotal for maintaining systemic health in older adults as it directly ...

Impact of a Mindfulness‐Based Intervention on Pain and Psychological Factors in Women With Chronic Painful Temporomandibular Disorders

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 12, Page 2269-2281, December 2025.
This study investigates the effects of a mindfulness‐based intervention (MBI) on women aged 18–61 with chronic pain related to temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Eighty‐four participants were randomised into an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG). The IG received 8 weekly 2‐h MBI sessions plus a 4‐h immersion.

Automated Assessment of Test of Masticating and Swallowing Solids Using a Neck‐Worn Electronic Stethoscope: A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 12, Page 2252-2258, December 2025.
This study evaluated the feasibility of a semi‐automated assessment of the Test of Masticating and Swallowing Solids using a neck‐worn electronic stethoscope, which detects swallowing actions through deep learning‐based analysis of sound data collected from the back of the neck. ABSTRACT Background The Test of Masticating and Swallowing Solids (TOMASS)

Effects of Multidirectional Head Lift Exercise Based on Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Techniques on Oropharyngeal Swallowing Muscles in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults With Oral Frailty

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 12, Page 2282-2290, December 2025.
Illustration of multidirectional head‐lift exercise using proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques, demonstrating superior enhancement of oropharyngeal swallowing muscle function in community‐dwelling older adults with oral frailty. ABSTRACT Background Dysphagia rehabilitation using proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) was ...
