Factors affecting masticatory performance during the mixed dentition period.
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2022BACKGROUND During the mixed dentition period, masticatory performance may temporarily decline as deciduous teeth are replaced by permanent teeth. This may lead to an insufficient intake of chewy foods.

The effect of experimental balancing interferences on masticatory performance
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2014SummaryImmediate adaptation to experimental‐balancing interferences is known to affect jaw kinematics and electromyographic activity (EMG). However, little is known about the influence on masticatory performance parameters. This study hypothesises that balancing‐side interferences significantly reduce the performance of the masticatory system.

Relationship between Oral Sensitivity and Masticatory Performance
Journal of Dental Research, 2004The size of a bolus determines how it will be manipulated in the mouth and swallowed. We hypothesized that mucosal sensitivity would be important for masticatory function. The accuracy of solid object size perception, spatial acuity, and food particle size reduction during mastication were measured in 22 healthy adults with/without topical anesthesia ...

Relationship Between Chewing Rate and Masticatory Performance
CRANIO®, 2013The influence of mandibular movement timing on food breakdown remains unclear. The authors, therefore, sought to relate chewing rate with masticatory performance. Chewing rate, defined as the number of masticatory cycles habitually achieved per minute, was measured in 55 healthy dentulous subjects (age, 22.2 +/- 5.0 years).

Masticatory performance in 80‐year‐old individuals
Gerodontology, 2004Objective: To evaluate the masticatory performance of elderly people at the age of 80 years.Subjects: A total of 283 individuals of 80 years of age took part in a general and dental health survey.Main outcome measures: A dental examination including the number of remaining teeth, occlusion, prostheses, bite force recording, and a questionnaire ...

Gender difference in masticatory performance in dentate adults
Journal of Prosthodontic Research, 2012To clarify whether there might be a gender difference in masticatory performance in dentate adults.Thirty male subjects and thirty female subjects were asked to chew gummy jelly on their habitual chewing side for 10, 15 and 20s and the amounts of glucose extraction were measured.

Factors affecting masticatory performance of Japanese children
International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, 2009Aim. The aim of this study was to analyse occlusal parameters and body variables to examine the factors accounting for masticatory performance of Japanese children in relation to adults.Methods. Sixty‐six children and 24 adults chewed three pieces of a colour‐changeable chewing gum, separately, for 30 s, 60 s, and 90 s. The colour change was measured
