Mastoid Cavity Obliteration with Hydroxyapatite Granules
Saudi Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, 2021Background: Modified radical mastoidectomy is the mainstay in the treatment of a case of unsafe CSOM. In order to reduce the side effects of an open matoid cavity, many methods to obliterate the cavity have been devised. Aims & Objectives: Cavity obliteration was done to study ...

Mastoid obliteration is recommended as a routine procedure in all mastoid surgery. Bone chips from the mastoid tip, bone paté from the cortical bone and lyophilized dura can all be employed effectively to fill the epitympanic space and Traumann's triangle.

Long-term Outcomes After Secondary Mastoid Obliteration
Otology & Neurotology, 2016To assess long-term outcomes after secondary mastoid obliteration.Case series with chart review.Tertiary care center.Adult patients (20-80 yr of age) undergoing secondary mastoid obliteration.Hearing results (improvement in pure-tone average air-bone gap [PTA-ABG] from baseline) at the time of postoperative audiometry and at least 5 years after surgery,

Mastoid obliteration in intact canal wall mastoidectomy
Clinical Otolaryngology, 1987Long-term results following intact canal wall mastoidectomy with cavity obliteration were compared with those following similar operations leaving the mastoid cavity as an 'air reservoir'. The incidence of adhesive eardrums was the same (12%) in both groups.

Mastoid obliteration with the temporoparietal fascia flap
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1991AbstractObliteration of persistently discharging open mastoid cavities is one surgical option to achieve a dry ear. All the currently described techniques involve the use of random pattern local tissue flaps or free grafts. Ten patients have undergone obliteration procedures using the vascularized temporoparietal fascia flap.

Operative Technique In Mastoid Obliteration
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1973A meatally based postauricular musculoperiosteal flap is recommended for cavity obliteration. With preserved canal wall, it prevents spreadixg of infections to the mastoid cavity. In cases with removed posterior bony wall, a new rigid wall is reconstructed using cortical bone chips and bone dust between fascia and musculo-periosteal flap.

Mastoid Obliteration Using Homograft Bone: Preliminary Report
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1970The ideal solution for the problem of chronically infected radical mastoid cavity should include restoration of the external ear canal and middle ear structures to their normal state. The use of homogenous cancellous bone chips for cavity obliteration, combined with the technique of vein graft tympanoplasty, has produced promising early results in a ...

Mastoid Obliteration: Autogenous Cranial Bone pÂte Reconstruction
Otology & Neurotology, 2003To review the outcome in consecutive patients who have undergone complete epitympanic and mastoid obliteration and concurrent tympanic membrane reconstruction over a 53-month period.Retrospective review.Tertiary referral center.Sixty-two ears in 56 sequential patients undergoing mastoid obliteration with major indications including recurrent infection,

Obliteration of mastoid cavities using bone pâté
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1988AbstractThe authors report on a series of 24 patients in whom open cavity mastoidectomy cavities were obliterated with bone pâté. The aim of the procedure is to provide the patients with a dry ear which then also reduces the need for frequent out-patient attendances.

Use of mastoid obliteration techniques in cholesteatoma
Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2013To evaluate the choice of techniques, safety and long-term outcome of mastoid obliteration and assess the place of imaging in the postoperative monitoring of residual cholesteatoma. All recent reports on mastoid obliteration for the management of cholesteatoama were favourable.
