Mitochondrial heme oxygenase of Mastomys coucha
The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 1996While studying the fate of heme generated during malaria infection, it was observed that mitochondrial preparations were highly enriched with heme compared to other subcellular particles. With this background, the present study aimed to determine the status of mitochondrial heme oxygenase and compare it with the microsomal enzyme.

Care of Mastomys in the laboratory
Lab Animal, 2016Mastomys rodents occupy a valuable niche in biomedical research, but there is very little published information regarding how to care for them in the laboratory. Here we provide information about the physical and behavioral characteristics of this unusual laboratory rodent, its taxonomic history, common diseases that affect it, and its use in research.

Microfilarial periodicity in Mastomys natalensis
Journal of Helminthology, 1984AbstractThe microfilarial level in the peripheral blood of Mastomys natalensis infected with the filarial parasites, Litomosoides carinii, Brugia pahangi, B. malayi and Dipetalonema viteae was monitored at two-hour intervals for 24 hours. The microfilariae of B. pahangi and B. malayi exhibited nocturnal and diurnal subperiodicity, respectively; no such

Spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis in Praomys (Mastomys) natalensis
Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1982Abstract The occurrence of lymphoplasmacellular thyroiditis associated with the presence of autoantibodies to thyroid colloid in Mastomys makes it likely that there is an autoimmune thyroiditis in this animal species. Thyroiditis occurred in 16% of the males and in 23% of the females. From longitudinal studies performed in a number of the animals, it
