Modulation of host’s immune responses and parasite load in Mastomys coucha immunized with recombinant mitochondrial HSP60 of human lymphatic filarial parasite Brugia malayi

open access: yes, 2013
Recently we have shown that mitochondrial HSP60 of Brugia malayi (mtHSP60bm) shows high degree of homology with Escherichia coli GroEL/ES and that the ATP binding pockets of HSP60 in humans, E. coli and B. malayi were structurally conserved.

Amplification of rat microsatellite loci in Mastomys coucha Smith, 1836

open access: yes, 2008
627-632The multimammate rat M. coucha is the most widespread strain to be introduced in biomedical research and various stocks of this strain are maintained in laboratories across the globe.

Genetic variation in two morphologically similar South African Mastomys species (Rodentia : Muridae)

open access: yes, 2012
M.A.Two species of multimammate mouse, Mastomys coucha and M. natalensis are common, and widely distributed in southern Africa, occurring sympatrically in some areas, and allopatrically in others.

Immunization resulted in to significant reduction in parasite burden.

open access: yes, 2013
(A) Microfilaraemia in the tail blood of immunized and control groups of M. Coucha were determined after 90 days post challenge. Significant reduction in microfilarial density was observed in Bm-TPP immunized M.

Picroliv prevents oxidation in serum lipoprotein lipids of Mastomys coucha infected with Plasmodium berghei.

open access: yesIndian journal of experimental biology, 1998
Picroliv, an iridoid glycoside mixture from the root and rhizome of Picrorhiza kurrooa, at the dose of 6 mg/kg p.o. for two weeks provided significant protection against the generation of lipid peroxidation products in serum beta-lipoproteins of P. berghei infected M. coucha. Incubation of normal rat hepatocytes with very low density lipoprotein or low

A mouse in the spotlight: Response capacity to artificial light at night in a rodent pest species, the southern multimammate mouse (Mastomys coucha)

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Management
Multimammate mice are prolific breeders, can cause significant agricultural damage, and are reservoir hosts for a number of pathogens. They are nocturnal and given their success in urbanised rural environments, we were interested in how they would respond to increasingly bright anthropogenic spaces.
