The Diverse Ecology of Electronic Materials
Silicon has been the dominant material in microelectronics for a half century. Other materials, however, have subsidiary roles in microelectronics manufacturing. A few materials have even been promoted as replacements for silicon.

Making Sense of Chemistry: Synthetic Rubber in German Popular Scientific Literature (1929-2009)
The chapter analyzes the popular literature on synthetic rubber between 1929 and 2009 and asks how popular science books explained and interpreted rubber research and development to a general (German) public. How does popular literature produce different

The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Extended Fused Carbazole‐BODIPY, High Brightness NIR Organic Dyes
Highly fused boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) with a strong donor group has been synthesized, and their photophysical behaviors fully characterized. They exhibit outstanding brightness for fluorophores emitting in the NIR region. Water‐soluble nanoparticles filled with one of these dyes demonstrate high efficiency as the NIR II visualization agent ...

Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Total Synthesis of the Spirocyclic Bis‐Indole Alkaloid (−)‐Owerreine via a [4+2] Annulation
The total synthesis of the bis‐indole alkaloid (−)‐owerreine has been accomplished by a diastereoselective [4+2] annulation between an enamine and an α,β−unsaturated indolenine precursor to form the 3‐spirocyclic tetrahydropyridine linkage of the natural product. DFT calculations allow an understanding of the mechanism of the key annulation.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their
