Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Employee referral, social proximity and worker discipline [PDF]
We study ex-post hiring risks in low income countries with limited legal and regulatory frameworks. In our theory of employee referral, the new recruit internalises the rewards and punishments of the in-house referee meted out by the hiring firm.

Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The Impact of Match-Play Tennis on Indirect Markers of Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Status [PDF]
Introduction: Research has shown that both heat stress and endurance exercise can result in an increase in oxidative stress; however, there is limited information regarding the impact of the combination on oxidative balance, in particular an exercise ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Trends in the French commercial farm population [PDF]
Knowledge and projection of farm numbers and the structure of their population is an important issue for agricultural economists and policy makers. Although Markov chain models have enjoyed decades of popularity in forecasting total farm numbers, they ...

HLA matching and cadaver kidney transplantation--status 1984.
The effect of HLA matching on cadaver kidney graft survival was analysed in over 9000 transplants. Matching for HLA-A and -B accounted for an improvement of 8% in the one-year survival rate, matching for HLA-DR for 10%, and matching for HLA-B + DR for 19%. The matching effect of the HLA-B and HLA-DR loci was additive.
