Statistical Matching and Official Statistics
Rivista di statistica ufficialeStatistical matching procedures are methods that aim at the integration of sources. A description of real contexts in the Italian National Statistical Institute, in which these methods appear to be useful, is given. The necessary steps for the application of statistical matching are analysed.

Correction of Incoherences in Statistical Matching
2013Statistical matching is studied inside a coherent setting, by focusing on the problem of removing inconsistencies. When structural zeros among involved variables are present, incoherencies on the parameter estimations can arise. The aim is to compare different methods to remove such incoherences based on specific pseudo-distances.

Sometimes it is reported that the average lawyer earns a lot of money; at the same time, the median income of lawyers is reported to be more modest. One year the average team in the National Football League made a sizable profit while the median team barely broke even. People often confuse the mean and the median of a distribution.

Statistics of color-matching experimental data
Applied Optics, 1999By assuming that color matches are normally distributed in XYZ space, we present a rigorous statistical technique to obtain regions of equally noticeable chromaticity differences. The probability density function of color matches in (x, y, Y) space is calculated according to standard techniques in probability theory.

Generalized Pattern Matching Statistics
2002In pattern matching algorithms, a characteristic parameter is the number of occurrences of a given pattern in a random text of length n generated by a source. We consider here a generalization of the pattern matching problem in two ways. First, we deal with a generalized notion of pattern that encompasses classical patterns as well as “hidden patterns”.

A discrete time process on [0,1] considered in this paper is related to various problems involving two independent samples. In particular one may suggest a simple matching rule for the case of continuously generated samples and a goodness-of-fit test based on the number of unmatched elements. A recurrence formula for computing the exact distribution of

In this paper, we survey some recent developments on statistical properties of matchings of very large and infinite graphs. We discuss extremal graph theoretic results like Schrijver’s theorem on the number of perfect matchings of regular bipartite graphs and its variants from the point of view of graph limit theory.

Statistical learning in official statistics: The case of statistical matching
Statistical Journal of the IAOS: Journal of the International Association for Official Statistics, 2019Data integration is becoming a crucial task in National Statistical Institutes in order to exploit the information provided by already existing data sources. Here the focus is on statistical matching methods; they are designed to integrate data stemming out from traditional sample surveys referred to the same target population. In particular, this work

Uncertainty Analysis in Statistical Matching
2012Among the goals of statistical matching, a very important one is the estimation of the joint distribution of variables not jointly observed in a sample survey but separately available from independent sample surveys. The absence of joint information on the variables of interest leads to uncertainty about the data generating model.
