Abstract The material balance is a very important part of the reservoir engineer’s toolbox that is being relegated to the background in today’s reservoir evaluation workflow. This paper examines some issues that normally preclude its regular use especially as a pre-step before moving into full reservoir simulation and the use of a new ...

Aggregation for material balances
Journal of Comparative Economics, 1978Abstract In an input-output system, let final demands and gross outputs be iteratively balanced by successive approximations. The speed of convergence will depend, among other things, on the initial choice of gross outputs. Suppose that, using some aggregation weights, aggregate supply is made equal to aggregate demand in the initial plan.

Price Balances and Material Balances
Problems in Economics, 1967V. S. Dadaian's report underestimates the connection between the method of determining optimal plan prices and the method of material balances widely used in planning practice. The impression is made that prices can be planned without preliminary balancing of material product flows. Dadaian is not the only one to hold such a viewpoint.

The material balance equation was first formulated by Schilthuis14 and introduced in 1936. Until well into the 1950s it was the only means of determining the production drive mechanism in oil and gas reservoirs, and of predicting their behaviour.

Before a food manufacturing process can be installed and commissioned into a factory, it must be designed and the size and nature of the equipment to be used must be specified. However, before this stage an analysis of the process must be undertaken to determine, inter alia, the quantities of product and raw materials to be handled.

Steamflood Material-Balance Applications
SPE Reservoir Engineering, 1989Summary A simple steamflood material balance derived from a two-zone reservoir model is presented. Alternative forms of the material balance include the effects of an initial hydrocarbon gas saturation, PV compressibility, and a hot-water zone.

Improvements to Reservoir Material Balance Methods
SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2000Abstract Experience with a number of material balance data sets from the field and from simulation has revealed some procedures that can be used to improve analysis of both oil and gas reservoirs: Failure to account for a weak water drive can result in material balance errors that are not insignificant. The assertion of previous authors ...
